Quang An Flower Market is the largest supplier of fresh flowers in Hanoi , distributing to many local markets in the city center and surrounding areas. During holidays, especially Lunar New Year, the market is always bustling with activity as buying and selling continues throughout the night.
On the evening of February 12th (the 25th day of the 12th lunar month), thousands of people gathered at Quang An flower market to shop for Tet (Lunar New Year).
The sudden surge in the number of vehicles has caused traffic congestion in and around the flower market, making movement difficult and prolonged.
The vendors' carts, loaded with flowers and ornamental plants, constantly come and go from the market.
The flower stalls were constantly crowded with customers. Many selling points were packed, and customers had to queue to wait for their turn.
This year, many exotic flower varieties are appearing for the first time, transported from Da Lat to Hanoi by air.
However, the most popular items during the period leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year) are still familiar varieties such as lilies, gladioli, peach blossoms, and magnolias… The sharp increase in buyers has driven up the prices of many types of flowers, with some items doubling in price compared to normal days.
Gladiolus flowers, which usually cost only 30,000 - 40,000 VND per 10 stems, have now increased to 100,000 - 140,000 VND per 10 stems.
Lilies, with their diverse range of colors, are also a popular choice among many women.
Compared to the usual price of 200,000 - 300,000 VND per 10 stems, the price of lilies has increased significantly as Tet approaches, reaching 400,000 - 900,000 VND.
Normally, a bunch of apricot blossoms costs 70,000 - 90,000 VND, but this price has increased to 150,000 - 200,000 VND per bunch as Tet approaches. Magnolia trees, tall and beautifully shaped with evenly distributed buds, are being offered for 1.7 - 2 million VND per branch. Branches and trees with particularly beautiful designs can cost several million VND. Meanwhile, some items like roses and chrysanthemums have seen a slightly smaller price increase.
The price of peach blossom branches this year has generally not increased too sharply, and at times has even been cheaper than last year. At the market, small peach blossom branches used for altars are commonly sold for around 100,000 - 120,000 VND/branch, higher than the previous price of 50,000 - 60,000 VND. Meanwhile, large, or ornate peach blossom branches range in price from 600,000 to 2 million VND/branch, depending on their shape and beauty.
According to vendors, the prices of many types of flowers have increased during this period but are still at a reasonable level. However, due to the crowded market, customers find it difficult to choose carefully as they normally would.
Ms. Thu Ha (Vinh Hung ward) said that Quang An flower market has almost all types of flowers sold on the market, and many items are even unique to this market because they are imported from provinces and cities nationwide and even abroad. "Here I can freely choose, buy whatever I like, it's very convenient. And the prices aren't too expensive either," she said.
Many small traders predict that flower prices will continue to rise as the Lunar New Year approaches. "As usual, flower prices don't just double during these days, they can triple, or even more," one trader commented.
Many people left the market feeling satisfied after choosing the perfect bouquets of flowers to take home for Tet (Lunar New Year).
As morning approaches, trading activity at Quang An flower market becomes increasingly vibrant and bustling.
