When talking about Bim Son, people often think of an industrial town right at the gateway of Thanh Hoa province with large factories. However, Bim Son people with their industrious and creative nature have built their homeland to develop comprehensively, in which agricultural production with a new direction has achieved many encouraging results.
After 10 years of implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Construction, the appearance of rural areas in Bim Son town has changed dramatically, the material and spiritual life of the people has been significantly improved. To achieve such results, it is impossible not to mention the joint efforts of the entire political system, authorities at all levels and the entire people of the town, especially the contribution of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Agricultural Extension Center and technical staff of the Bim Son Agricultural Service Center.
Bim Son Agricultural Service Center was established in 2019. Although it is still young and has a small team of technical staff, with a high sense of responsibility, basic technical training and a creative and bold working style, the Center's technical staff have always stayed close to the locality to grasp the strengths and weaknesses of local agricultural production, thereby providing timely and accurate support solutions for people in agricultural production.
In 2023, the Center implemented many models and transferred many techniques in the fields of cultivation, animal husbandry and aquaculture to farmers in the town. The Center has transferred the process of care, feeding, and disease prevention for livestock in a complete and close manner, gradually helping farmers implement stable models, develop sustainable and safe livestock farming, contributing to solving employment and increasing income for workers.
The model of raising wild ducks in the direction of biological safety associated with product consumption in 2023 was implemented in Lam Son ward with two households, Mr. Pham Van Do and Ms. Pham Thi Lan's household in 2023, bringing very positive results. With 50% support of 1,000 ducklings and high-quality feed for the entire flock of ducks during the growing period, the dedicated technical support of technical staff has brought very good results. After 3 months of care, with a survival rate of 94%, the weight of each duck reached 1.2 kg and the selling price of about 100,000 VND per duck, the farmer earned a profit of about 40 million VND after deducting all costs.
The model of intercropping giant freshwater prawn farming with rice of Mr. Tran Xuan Hanh's family in Village 1, Quang Trung Commune is also a typical advanced model of the town. Mr. Hanh started this business in 2022 on an area of 1.25 hectares of his family's rice fields. Although he did not have much experience in the first crop, his family earned about 20 million VND in profit. Realizing that intercropping giant freshwater prawn farming with rice has potential in his hometown, Mr. Hanh decided to expand the farming scale to 20,000 fry. During the farming process, Mr. Hanh received technical support and fry from the Thanh Hoa Provincial Agricultural Extension Center and the Bim Son Town Agricultural Service Center. After 6 months of farming, the giant freshwater prawn has entered the harvest stage, giving high productivity and income. In the second harvest of 2023, Mr. Hanh sold 400 kg of shrimp at a selling price of 300,000 VND/kg, estimated to import about 120 million VND. According to the assessment of the Agricultural Extension Center of Thanh Hoa province, freshwater prawn intercropped with rice is an easy-to-raise freshwater species, with a fast growth rate, high yield, making use of the cultivated area and the ability to replicate the model in the communes of the districts in the province. Currently, freshwater prawn products are popular with consumers, so the consumption of the product is very favorable.
Sharing with us, Mr. Hanh confided: To achieve successful results in agriculture in general and animal husbandry in particular, in addition to the support and technical guidance of agricultural extension officers and agricultural service centers, farmers must work hard with their livestock. Pay attention to weather and climate forecasts to have the best preventive measures for livestock. There are days when we have to stay up all night to monitor livestock, from their movements to their ability to consume food and waste to adjust temperature, food, water and disease prevention medicine appropriately and promptly.
From the effectiveness of the models, Mr. Trinh Quoc Dat, Vice Chairman of Bim Son Town People's Committee, said that the town will focus on directing agencies, organizations, and localities to coordinate in implementing synchronous solutions and propagating people to actively participate in agricultural production, in order to bring products with high and sustainable commodity value./.
