The Hai Tien coastline, specifically the section passing through Hoang Thanh commune, is experiencing serious erosion.

Typhoons No. 5 and No. 10 in 2025 caused serious erosion along the Hai Tien coastal embankment. In particular, the section passing through Hoang Thanh commune has experienced severe erosion, encroaching deeply into the sidewalks and coastal roads, and showing signs of spreading. If not addressed promptly, the erosion will worsen, impacting the lives, livelihoods, and tourism development of the Hai Tien coastal area.

The Hai Tien coastal embankment, passing through Hoang Thanh commune, was constructed by the Provincial People's Committee starting in 2018 with an investment of over 100 billion VND. After its completion, the project has proven effective in attracting and developing tourism in Hai Tien and surrounding areas. In 2025, due to the impact of storms, especially typhoons No. 5 and No. 10, the Hai Tien coastal embankment suffered serious erosion, with concrete peeling off and scattered haphazardly along the coastline, and many sections of the embankment cracking and becoming increasingly damaged. After the embankment slope subsided, seawater seeped in, eroding the sandy foundation of the coastline, causing further subsidence and damage in many areas.

The coastal embankment in Hai Tien is experiencing serious erosion.

Currently, over 500 meters of the coastal sidewalk in Hai Tien, specifically the section passing through Hoang Thanh commune, has subsided and suffered severe damage, creating dangerous potholes. Many streetlights, ornamental trees, and coastal landscaping features have been broken or collapsed. In some sections, erosion has encroached more than 2 meters into the road. Residents living along the coast are worried as the erosion is becoming increasingly serious.

Ms. Le Thi Xuan (Hoang Thanh commune) reported that the subsidence has been occurring for a long time and is becoming increasingly serious, causing significant property damage to residents living in the area.

According to Mr. Le Duc Tho, head of Trung Hai village, Hoang Thanh commune, the section of the embankment passing through the village has some points where it has subsided by up to 3 meters, severely affecting the landscape of the tourist area as well as the fishing activities of local fishermen.

To accurately assess the damage to the Hai Tien coastal embankment in Hoang Thanh commune, on December 29, 2025, the Department of Finance, in collaboration with several provincial departments and agencies, conducted a field inspection and assessment of the current situation. According to the working group's report: The Hai Tien coastal embankment in Hoang Thanh commune, approximately 750 meters long, suffered significant damage due to storms in 2025, particularly Typhoon No. 10. This resulted in complete subsidence and erosion of the seaward side of the embankment, creating a gaping hole in the pedestrian walkway along the coast. Currently, the erosion is very dangerous and continues to worsen, posing a safety risk to the coastal road.

According to assessments by authorities, the seawall in the Hai Tien tourist area, specifically the section passing through Hoang Thanh commune, is approximately 750 meters long and has been affected by storms in 2025.

Based on the survey results of relevant agencies and the increasingly serious erosion situation in the Hai Tien coastal area, on January 2, 2026, the People's Committee of Hoang Thanh commune submitted a report to the Provincial People's Committee, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and relevant departments. Accordingly, the locality determined that the current level of damage to the Hai Tien tourist area's seawall within Hoang Thanh commune is extremely urgent and serious. If not repaired promptly, it will seriously affect the entire seawall and coastline, as well as other infrastructure such as restaurants and hotels in the tourist area.

According to Mr. Hac Xuan Tho, Head of the Economic Department of Hoang Thanh Commune People's Committee, statistics show that there are approximately 13-14 subsided sections with a total length of over 500 meters, and the estimated damage is very significant. Although the local authorities have implemented solutions, the problem has not yet been completely resolved.

The increasingly severe coastal erosion is also damaging infrastructure and shrinking the mooring area for fishermen in Hoang Thanh commune. Local residents hope that the authorities will soon address the erosion problem in this area, ensuring the safety of their lives, livelihoods, and property.
