On December 6, in Champasak province (Southern Laos), a bilateral ministerial-level conference was held between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Lao Ministry of Public Security on cooperation in crime prevention, maintaining social order and safety, and drug prevention and control by 2025.
Attending the event were Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long, Deputy Minister, Head of the Investigation Police Agency of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam; Senior Lieutenant General Khamkinh Phuilamanivong, Deputy Minister of Public Security of Laos; representatives of relevant agencies and units of the two countries Vietnam and Laos.
Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long said that the Conference was an opportunity for the police forces of the two countries in general and the anti-drug police in particular to jointly evaluate the effectiveness of the coordination in the fight against crime in the past time, and to agree on the direction of cooperation in the coming time between the police forces of Vietnam and Laos.
The report at the Conference stated that on the basis of cooperation agreements between the two countries, the police forces of units and localities of Vietnam and Laos have proactively developed plans to resolutely implement assigned tasks and achieved important results, such as strengthening the exchange of information on drug and crime situations through the hotline network; coordinating to fight joint projects with transnational crime rings; exchanging experiences, supporting equipment, improving capacity in the field of drug and crime prevention and control, etc.
Within the framework of the Conference, the two countries' Ministries of Public Security will exchange information on the situation of crime, social order and security, and drug crimes related to the two countries; assess the situation and results of coordination work on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed on August 9, 2021 between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Public Security of Laos in drug prevention and control cooperation, as well as the results of implementing agreements, arrangements, and cooperation plans between the two countries; cooperation in preventing and combating crimes related to human trafficking, crimes related to social order, and drug crimes on the Vietnam-Laos border.
