On January 13th, at the Ministry of Health headquarters, Ms. Dao Hong Lan, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Minister of Health, received Mr. Marc E. Knapper, the U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam.

Attending the meeting with Minister Dao Hong Lan were representatives from the following departments: Science, Technology and Training, Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Pharmaceutical Management, Disease Prevention, Social Welfare; the following divisions: International Cooperation, Planning and Finance, the Ministry of Health Office, and Bach Mai Hospital.

Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan delivered a speech.

Joining the delegation of the U.S. Ambassador were Mr. Matthew Bunt, Acting Deputy Ambassador; Mr. Alan Brinker, Head of Health Security; Ms. Lindsay Kim, Country Director of the CDC; and Mr. Minesh Shah, Director of the HIV/TB Program, CDC.

During the meeting, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan expressed her appreciation, deep gratitude, and best wishes to Mr. Marc E. Knapper, the U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam, on the occasion of the end of his term in Vietnam.

Throughout his tenure as the U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam from January 2022 to the present, the Ambassador has made extremely important contributions and left a profound mark on promoting bilateral cooperation between the two countries in general, and especially in the field of healthcare.

With his deep understanding and open-minded spirit of cooperation, the Ambassador has consistently been a strong supporter of health cooperation programs between Vietnam and the United States.

Ambassador Marc E. Knapper, the U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam, delivered a speech.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health highly appreciates and values ​​the Ambassador's role in promoting cooperation in health, especially during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic; as well as in other areas such as preventive medicine, HIV/AIDS prevention and control, tuberculosis, malaria, medical examination and treatment, capacity building of the primary healthcare system, medical personnel training and scientific research.

"The achievements not only bring practical benefits to the Vietnamese people, ensuring health security in the region and the world, but also contribute to strengthening trust, cohesion, and mutual understanding between the two countries," said Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan, adding: "We deeply feel that, throughout his term, the Ambassador has not only been an important diplomatic bridge but also a sincere friend of Vietnam, always showing the country and people of Vietnam kind feelings and special attention."

Ambassador Marc Knapper expressed his admiration for the leadership of the Ministry of Health, which has led to remarkable development in Vietnam's healthcare sector in recent years; and highly appreciated the significant contributions of the healthcare sector to socio-economic development in Vietnam.

At the same time, they shared memories and profound impressions from their tenure in Vietnam, having worked alongside the healthcare sector and making significant contributions to deepening cooperation in various fields, which is the focus and driving force of the relationship between the two countries.

The U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam expressed his hope for continued opportunities for cooperation in the future, not only between the two countries but also within the healthcare sector. He shared information about the ongoing collaboration of the U.S. CDC in Vietnam in contributing to the fight against tuberculosis and AIDS, and the future signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the healthcare sector to promote the development of bilateral cooperation and exchange in healthcare between Vietnam and the United States.

In a warm and open atmosphere, both sides expressed their appreciation for the effectiveness and profound humanitarian significance of the support and cooperation programs and projects facilitated by the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam for hospitals and the Ministry of Health.

Ambassador Marc Knapper has been working alongside the Vietnamese health sector on collaborative projects, creating learning and development opportunities for healthcare professionals and contributing to improving the quality of healthcare for the Vietnamese people.

The interest and support of the U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam is an important bridge in promoting bilateral health cooperation projects.

Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan expressed her hope that Mr. Marc Knapper and his successor, Ms. Lindsay Kim, Country Director of the CDC, would continue to cooperate with and support the Vietnamese health sector in the fields of disease prevention, elderly care, health tourism, treatment and promotion, pharmaceutical industry, human resource training, and medical equipment and technology.

In particular, the application of information technology in the digital transformation of healthcare, with further enhancement of the healthcare database system, electronic medical records, and electronic health records, aims to achieve greater efficiency in managing, protecting, and caring for people's health throughout their entire lifecycle.

Minister Dao Hong Lan instructed the Department of International Cooperation and expressed her wish for the Ambassador to appoint a liaison officer from the US Embassy in Vietnam to review and compile information on areas and issues where the two sides can cooperate, further demonstrating the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.

"We believe that, with the strong interest and support of the Ambassador and his colleagues, along with an open, trusting, and respectful spirit of cooperation, the health cooperation between Vietnam and the United States will continue to develop strongly, substantively, and more effectively in the future, making a positive contribution to the care, protection, and improvement of health for the people of both countries as well as the international community," said Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan.
