Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his delight at the positive development of the Vietnam-UK strategic partnership and appreciated the UK's interest in promoting cooperation with countries in the Asia- Pacific region, including Vietnam. The UK is the European country with the most active high-level delegation exchanges with Vietnam. Two-way trade has regained growth momentum thanks to taking advantage of the Vietnam-UK Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA). Trade turnover in 2023 reached 7.1 billion USD, up 4.4% compared to 2022; The UK is the second largest European FDI investor in Vietnam with a total registered capital of more than 4 billion USD. Bilateral cooperation in areas such as climate change response,education and training, science and technology, and health continues to be promoted.
In particular, in the context of 2024 being the UK's general election year, Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed hope that bilateral relations will continue to develop well on the basis of the Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

Regarding sustainable development, Vietnam has made strong commitments on emission reduction at COP 26 and is actively implementing them, including the adoption of the Political Declaration on the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) with G7 countries.
Regarding the digital economy, the Government has issued the "National Digital Transformation Program to 2025, with a vision to 2030" with the goal of turning Vietnam into a digital, stable and prosperous nation based on three pillars of digital government, digital economy and digital society.
In this process, Vietnam hopes to continue receiving support from international partners in terms of capital, technology, experience, etc. on the basis of ensuring the harmony of interests of all parties.
Vietnam also aims to increase investment attraction from potential partners, including corporations and investment funds from the Middle East; promote deep and substantive international integration activities; and develop high-quality human resources to meet new requirements of the era of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution.
In the context of economic diplomacy being affirmed as a fundamental and central task of Vietnamese diplomacy, an important driving force for rapid and sustainable national development; playing a pioneering role in negotiating and implementing bilateral and multilateral economic agreements, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Vietnamese representative agencies abroad will step up support for ministries, branches and localities to attract capital, investment, technology and resources for development.
Minister Bui Thanh Son hopes that international partners will cooperate and support the implementation of economic diplomacy more effectively and practically, promote digital diplomacy, and train capacity for diplomatic staff and local officials working in foreign affairs and economic diplomacy.
The Minister proposed that the TBI Institute support the Diplomatic Academy in connecting with major agencies, corporations, businesses, and research institutes around the world to enhance substantive exchanges and in-depth research on new issues and trends of the world economy such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor chip manufacturing, and clean energy conversion.
