The inauguration ceremony of the Nhon Trach 3 & 4 power plant, organized by the Vietnam National Energy and Industry Corporation ( Petrovietnam ) and the Vietnam Oil and Gas Power Corporation (PV Power), was held at the Ong Keo Industrial Park, Dai Phuoc commune, Dong Nai province. The event was attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Chairman of the Central Inspection Committee Tran Sy Thanh, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, and leaders from various ministries, central and local agencies.
The Nhon Trach 3,4 power plant complex is the first project in Vietnam to use imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), marking a pioneering step in the roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and realize the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
The Nhon Trach 3 & 4 power plant is invested in by PV Power, a subsidiary of Petrovietnam. The project is being undertaken by a consortium of Lilama and Samsung C&T as the EPC general contractor, with a total investment of approximately US$1.4 billion. This is the first project in the LNG (PV Gas) to Power (PV Power) chain within Petrovietnam's energy transition process, aiming to build a modern LNG power plant model, enhance electricity supply capacity, and contribute to national energy security amidst a strong energy transition.
With a total capacity of 1,624 MW, the Nhon Trach 3 & 4 power plant complex is expected to supply more than 9 billion kWh/year when operating stably, supplementing the system's base power supply with a large capacity, especially in the southern region. Furthermore, the complex also plays a role as a flexible power source, supporting system dispatch and balancing in the context of the increasing proportion of renewable energy.
The project is invested according to modern technological standards, using GE's 9HA.02 generation gas turbines (USA) - the turbine series with the highest technology, capacity, and efficiency in the world today. As a result, the plant achieves an efficiency of 62-64%, among the highest currently available. The 9HA.02 technology meets stringent emission standards and allows for flexible fuel switching, from LNG to the ability to burn hydrogen blends up to 50%, with the goal of using 100% hydrogen in the future.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien performed the inauguration ceremony for the Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 power plants (Dong Nai province).
The commissioning of the Nhon Trach 3 and 4 power plants not only adds a new, high-efficiency power source but also strengthens Petrovietnam/PV Power's role in ensuring energy security and meeting the electricity needs for socio-economic development and people's lives. PV Power affirms its commitment to safe and efficient operation, ensuring the stable operation of the two plants at high efficiency, strictly adhering to environmental protection regulations, and effectively carrying out social welfare work in the locality, accompanying Dong Nai province in its goal of sustainable development.
In the context of the global energy transition, Petrovietnam affirms its pioneering role in the formation of modern energy industrial centers, with the most important highlight being the Nhon Trach 3 & 4 Power Plant project, a vivid testament to the strategic vision and implementation capabilities of this national enterprise. According to Petrovietnam's strategic development orientation until 2030 and vision until 2050, the Group identifies the development of energy industrial centers, with LNG power generation as the cornerstone of the national energy structure.
Within the framework of the inauguration ceremony of the Nhon Trach 3 & 4 Power Plants, the Organizing Committee performed the ceremony of unveiling the "Outstanding Project" plaque to welcome the Party Congresses at all levels for the 2025-2030 term, leading up to the 14th National Congress of the Party.
The plaque unveiling ceremony acknowledges the socio-political significance and scale of Vietnam's first imported LNG power plant project cluster, affirming Petrovietnam and PV Power's pioneering role in developing large-scale, modern power sources, contributing to energy security and aligning with the country's sustainable development and energy transition goals.
