Minister Nguyen Hong Dien visited and worked with the Vietnam Trade Office in Laos

Within the framework of the working trip accompanying General Secretary To Lam and his wife on a State visit to Laos, attending the 50th National Day Celebration of the Lao People's Democratic Republic; co-chairing the high-level meeting between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, on December 2, in Vientiane, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien - head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade delegation visited and worked with the Vietnam Trade Office in Laos.

Speaking at the working session, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized the views of the leaders of the Party, State, Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the two countries on bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

In recent years, the leaders of the two countries' Ministries of Industry and Trade have implemented many policies and solutions for in-depth and substantive cooperation, promoting the strengths of Vietnam and Laos, which share a border of more than 2,300 km long, passing through the administrative boundaries of many provinces and cities of each side, an area with development potential and a strategic position on the East-West economic corridor.

During the working session, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized the views of the leaders of the Party, State, Government and leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam and Laos on bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

In 2024, bilateral trade turnover will reach 2.25 billion USD, up 38% compared to 2023. This is an important milestone when import and export between the two countries reached 2 billion USD for the first time and reached a record 2.25 billion USD - the highest level ever. In the first 10 months of 2025, Vietnam - Laos trade cooperation continued to set a new milestone, when bilateral trade reached nearly 2.5 billion USD, up 50.4% compared to 2024, making Vietnam the third largest trade partner of Laos, aiming for 5 billion USD and striving to reach 10 billion USD in the coming time.

The Minister directed the Vietnam Trade Office in Laos to actively and proactively grasp the situation and propose many effective policies and solutions to realize the instructions of senior leaders and Ministers of Industry and Trade of the two countries.

The Vietnam Trade Office in Laos has quickly innovated and improved the quality and efficiency of its operations. The Trade Office needs to coordinate more closely with the functional agencies of the Ministry of Industry and Trade to improve work efficiency, innovate trade promotion and trade connection to enhance cooperation and create a breakthrough in bilateral trade between Vietnam and Laos.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien visited the headquarters of the Vietnam Trade Office in Laos.

Assigning tasks to the Vietnam Trade Office in Laos in the coming time, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien requested that the office coordinate with units in the Ministry of Industry and Trade to develop action plans, concretize and implement well the agreements, arrangements, and memorandums of understanding signed between the Industry and Trade sectors of Vietnam and Laos, especially the Memorandum of Understanding on developing industrial linkage chains signed on December 1.

Also during the working session, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien directed the Trade Promotion Agency and Industry and Trade Newspaper to research, propose, develop work plans, and send staff to work in Laos and key areas.

Receiving the instructions of Minister Nguyen Hong Dien, Ms. Tran Thi Tu Anh - Commercial Counselor, Vietnam Trade Office in Laos pledged that the trade office will make every effort, unite and successfully carry out the tasks with the highest goal of increasing the import-export turnover between the two countries.
