On the afternoon of October 17, in Hanoi, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung chaired a meeting with leaders of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee on the development of culture, sports and tourism in the area.

Attending the meeting were leaders of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, leaders of departments, branches and units of Gia Lai province and leaders of relevant Departments, Offices and units of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Minister Nguyen Van Hung worked with leaders of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee on the development of culture, sports and tourism in the area.

Welcoming the delegation of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee to work at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung said that Gia Lai is the second locality to register to work with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism after successfully organizing the Provincial Party Congress. This shows the attention and focus on cultural development of Gia Lai provincial leaders.

Through studying the reports presented to the Gia Lai Provincial Party Congress, the Minister expressed his agreement with the cultural development policies of the Provincial Party Committee. Accordingly, the Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee has planned many major development policies, considering culture as the foundation for development, identifying the potential and advantages of tourism as well as focusing on sports development.

Minister Nguyen Van Hung said that if there is high determination and appropriate approach, Gia Lai will certainly successfully implement the Resolution of the Provincial Party Congress, contributing to socio-economic development and cultural development in the true spirit: "Culture is the foundation - Information is the conduit - Sports is the strength - Tourism is the connecting bridge".

Reporting at the meeting, Vice Chairwoman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich, said that the new Gia Lai province was established from July 1, 2025 on the basis of merging the entire area and population of the two old provinces of Binh Dinh and Gia Lai.

With a natural area of ​​over 21,576 km² and a population of over 3.5 million people, Gia Lai province is a unique combination of the strong offensive spirit of the "martial arts land" and the wild beauty, imbued with the cultural identity of the Central Highlands ethnic groups.

Gia Lai has a strategic geographical location, majestic natural landscape, diverse ethnic cultural identities, the Central Highlands gong cultural space and many valuable tangible and intangible cultural heritages remaining in the province. Gia Lai province identifies culture as a solid spiritual foundation and an important endogenous resource to promote rapid and sustainable socio-economic development.

The Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee said that after the merger, the need for investment in cultural institutions, heritage conservation and human resource development in Gia Lai province has increased significantly. However, local budget resources are still limited. Many important historical and cultural relics have degraded, the basic cultural infrastructure system has also degraded, requiring attention and investment from central capital sources.

Pursuant to Resolution No. 162/2024/QH15 dated November 27, 2024 of the National Assembly approving the investment policy of the National Target Program on Cultural Development for the 2025–2035 period and Decision No. 3399/QD-BVHTTDL dated September 23, 2025 of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism approving the National Target Program on Cultural Development for the 2025–2035 period, Phase I: from 2025 to 2030, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province proposes tasks and capital plans to implement the National Target Program on Cultural Development for the 2025–2030 period.

The Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee also presented proposals and recommendations related to planning for the preservation, restoration, rehabilitation and promotion of the value of the Tay Son Thuong Dao Relic Complex; proposed hosting the National Tourism Year 2026; the 9th International Festival of Vietnamese Traditional Martial Arts - Gia Lai in 2026 and hosting a number of sports events in 2026.

At the meeting, leaders of relevant units of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism took turns expressing their opinions on the development of culture, sports and tourism in the province, as well as discussing a number of proposals and recommendations of Gia Lai province.

Concluding the meeting, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung stated that after the success of the 16th Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030, Gia Lai has shaped its development direction in the coming period.

Accordingly, the province has more clearly identified development spaces and areas, affirming potentials and distinct advantages to strive to build Gia Lai province to develop and become rich and strong.

Agreeing with Gia Lai's development goals for the period 2025-2030, Minister Nguyen Van Hung affirmed that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will accompany the locality to contribute to realizing the province's cultural, sports and tourism development goals. Regarding culture, Gia Lai needs to continue to identify culture as the spiritual foundation and driving force for development, leading the entire process of building and sustainable development of the locality. Referring to the example of building new tourism products that can go from Bien Ho to the rocky cliffs, the Minister suggested that Gia Lai must identify key tourism products that are suitable to the local strengths.

The provincial tourism industry must advise local leaders in planning work to work with the whole country to "redraw the tourism map", identify potential tourism products with outstanding and different features to attract tourists.

"We must base our tourism planning on cultural factors, creating a modern cultural, sports, and tourism ecosystem that is imbued with the identity of the great forest and blue sea," the Minister emphasized.

Regarding press and media work, the Minister noted that this is a very important and special field, so the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism needs to pay special attention to state management in this field to promote its role on the information front.

Regarding the recommendations and proposals, the Minister basically agrees with the proposals of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee in the spirit of the Ministry and locality working together to develop culture.

Giving specific comments on each recommendation and proposal, the Minister said that the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will direct relevant agencies of the Ministry to closely coordinate and accompany localities to promote the development of culture, sports and tourism in the area.
