During the meeting, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung reported to the Minister on the results of bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand. The Ambassador stated that, in recent times, Vietnam has become a favorite destination for Thai people, especially young people. People-to-people exchanges, economic cooperation, trade, and tourism continue to be strongly promoted.

"The year 2026 will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand (1976–2026), so the two countries are actively preparing large-scale and meaningful commemorative activities," Ambassador Pham Viet Hung said.

On this occasion, the Ambassador requested the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to cooperate and support the organization of more exchange activities to enhance understanding and strengthen friendship between the two nations.

In response to the Ambassador, Minister Nguyen Van Hung stated that, authorized by the Prime Minister, he had traveled to Thailand on December 8th to attend the opening ceremony of the SEA Games. Following the ceremony, he would immediately return to Vietnam to continue his participation in the 10th session of the 15th National Assembly . Despite the short time, in accordance with international practice, the Minister always made time to visit the Embassy – the common home of Vietnamese people in a foreign land.

Thanking the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand for its cooperation and support for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation during their time competing here, the Minister expressed his hope that the bond between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Embassy would continue to be strengthened.

Emphasizing the consistent viewpoint of the Party and State on the three pillars of diplomacy: Party diplomacy (relations between the Communist Party of Vietnam and other communist, workers', and ruling parties), State diplomacy (relations between the Vietnamese State and other countries and international organizations), and People-to-People diplomacy (exchanges between people, social organizations, and cultural groups), the Minister affirmed that international cooperation is always based on the principles of equality, mutual benefit, and for peace and development.

"In the new context, culture and people-to-people exchanges are increasingly recognized as important 'soft bridges,' creating a sustainable foundation for all international relations. Only culture has the ability to connect, spread, and preserve cooperative values for the long term. Countries get to know Vietnam primarily through the depth of its culture and the beauty of its people, thereby opening up interest in economics, trade, and tourism," the Minister expressed.

Citing the viewpoint "As long as culture exists, the nation exists," a core principle in the policy of building and developing Vietnamese culture, emphasized by the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the 2021 National Culture Conference, the Minister also affirmed the crucial role of preserving the Vietnamese language – the core of national identity – contributing significantly to the task of spreading national cultural values, which needs to be carried out persistently, based on the community and through exchange activities, art, and education.

Looking ahead to the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand, the Minister stated that the Politburo is about to issue a Resolution on the development of Vietnamese culture in the new era, setting out many important requirements, including the task of "internationalizing Vietnamese culture" – bringing Vietnamese culture to the world and selectively absorbing the best of humanity. This will be an important direction for strengthening cultural cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand.

The Minister instructed the Department of International Cooperation to work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to propose practical activities, initially considering organizing "Vietnamese Culture Day in Thailand" and "Thai Culture Day in Vietnam," and also suggested that the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand expand the scale to a "Vietnam - Thailand Culture - Sports - Tourism Festival."

The event will include a tourism forum, destination networking, promotional activities, sports exchanges, and a joint arts program. This will be a comprehensive activity aimed at enhancing understanding and promoting multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

At the end of the meeting, the Minister expressed his hope that the Embassy would continue to accompany and support the Vietnamese Sports Delegation, encouraging overseas Vietnamese to show concern and share their spirit with the athletes, creating more encouragement for them to achieve the highest possible results during the 33rd SEA Games.
