Ministry of Health proposes tightening food trading on e-commerce

The Ministry of Health requires the removal of weight loss products of unknown origin on e-commerce platforms to ensure food safety.

On November 14, the Department of Food Safety ( Ministry of Health ) informed that it had sent a document to the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) regarding the management of food business on e-commerce.

According to the Department of Food Safety, through post-inspection on the implementation of regulations on registration of declarations and self-declarations, production and trading of functional foods, the Department of Food Safety discovered that Diet Minami food pill products, Hitana Minami 12kg weight loss support tea products, and 15kg weight loss products belonging to the group of functional foods are being advertised and traded on social platforms (tiktok) without being granted a Certificate of Product Declaration Registration.

The above products are also being advertised and sold on e-commerce platforms (Shopee, Lazada), with the information of Certificate of Product Declaration Registration No. 5438/2024/DKSP dated July 12, 2024 for the product Minami 12kg Weight Loss to reduce belly fat, through searching the data on the issuance of Certificate of Product Declaration Registration, the Department of Food Safety did not issue Certificate of Product Declaration Registration No. 5438/2024/DKSP dated July 12, 2024 for the above product.

Therefore, to strengthen the management of functional food business on e-commerce, the Food Safety Department requests relevant authorities and units to remove information on the above products and handle them according to the provisions of law (if any).

Regarding the 15kg Weight Loss Pills product, the Food Safety Department has sent a document to Lazada Vietnam E-Commerce Company Limited (Address: T19, Tower 2, Saigon Center Building, 67 Le Loi, Ho Chi Minh City). Through post-inspection on the implementation of regulations on registration of declarations and self-declarations, production and trading of functional foods, the Food Safety Department discovered that the 15kg Weight Loss Pills food product belongs to the group of functional foods being advertised and traded on the e-commerce platform (Lazada) without being granted a Certificate of Registration of Product Declaration. Specifically: 15kg Weight Loss Pills product (https://www.lazada.vn/products/pdp-i2911270137-s14068023386.html?).

The above product is also being advertised and sold on the e-commerce platform (Shopee), with the information of Certificate of Product Declaration Registration No. 5438/2024/DKSP dated July 12, 2024 for the product Minami 12kg Weight Loss to reduce belly fat, through searching the data on the issuance of Certificate of Product Declaration Registration, the Department of Food Safety did not issue Certificate of Product Declaration Registration No. 5438/2024/DKSP dated July 12, 2024 for the above product.

The Food Safety Department requests the company to urgently review the business and electronic transactions of functional food products, only trading functional food products that have been granted a Certificate of Product Declaration Registration by a competent state management agency or have been published on the Food Safety Data Information System according to regulations. At the same time, immediately stop trading and remove information about the above 15kg Weight Loss Pill product./.
