On July 11, the Ministry of Health informed that the Drug Administration of Vietnam has sent a document to the Department of Health of provinces and centrally-run cities; hospitals and institutes under the Ministry; and drug production and import establishments regarding ensuring drug supply.
According to the Drug Administration of Vietnam, recently, there have been a number of situations and developments in the world and in the country that may affect the supply of drugs, such as: The increase in diseases transmitted through the digestive tract, respiratory tract, mosquito-borne diseases (COVID-19, dengue fever, etc.); wars in some countries and regions of the world may disrupt the supply of blood products and blood products, opioid pain relievers. In particular, many foreign drug suppliers are no longer supplying drugs that have been registered for circulation; radioactive drug manufacturing facilities have changed their operations, etc.
The Drug Administration of Vietnam requests the Department of Health of provinces and centrally-run cities to direct hospitals, disease control centers and medical facilities in the area to develop plans and implement drug procurement to ensure adequate supply of drugs, absolutely not allowing shortages or shortages of drugs to serve the examination and treatment of people.
In addition, relevant units must ensure quality and reasonable prices, avoid sudden price increases, and focus on ensuring adequate supply of drugs for emergency work; disease prevention drugs, blood products and blood products, and opioid-based analgesic products.
In case of necessity, medical examination and treatment facilities shall proactively seek drug supply sources, carry out import in accordance with the provisions of law and seek alternative treatment measures.
The head of a medical examination and treatment facility is responsible for ensuring adequate supply of quality drugs to meet the needs of emergency, medical examination and treatment at the medical examination and treatment facility.
Hospitals and institutes under the Ministry proactively contact drug suppliers to place orders, monitor delivery progress, promptly make additional purchases in case of drug shortage risk, and ensure drug supply readiness.
In case of necessity, medical examination and treatment facilities shall proactively seek drug supply sources, carry out imports in accordance with the provisions of law and seek alternative treatment measures.
For drug manufacturing and importing establishments, the Drug Administration requires increasing supply sources, developing and implementing drug supply plans to serve the medical examination and treatment needs of the people, promptly supplying enough drugs when receiving orders from medical examination and treatment establishments, not allowing speculation or increasing drug prices; reporting to the Drug Administration when drugs are at risk of shortage./.
