On the morning of December 7, at Queen Sirikit 60th Anniversary Stadium (Pathum Thani province), the Vietnamese baseball team entered the third match at the 33rd SEA Games, facing the Laos team, ranked 47th in the world .

Carrying the excitement after the 5-2 victory over Malaysia, the Vietnamese players entered the match with determination.

Right from the first round, the Laos team created huge pressure by scoring 7 points in a row, opening the match and pushing Vietnam into a difficult pursuit. The superiority in technique and experience of the team ranked 47th in the world was clearly shown through strong, precise shots and effective running ability.

In the following rounds, although there were times when Vietnam defended better. Especially in the 2nd and 6th rounds when Laos did not score any more points, the representative of the Land of a Million Elephants still maintained the initiative. They scored 1 point in the 3rd round, 2 points in the 4th round, then exploded with 4 points in the 5th round and 4 more points in the 7th round, ending the match with a total of 16 points and 14 successful shots.

On the other hand, the Vietnamese team had 3 successful shots but could not convert them into points, mainly because the opponent defended too firmly and because of errors in handling. The number of 9 errors shows the great pressure that the young players have to face against a team of much higher level.

The match ended with a score of 0-16, but this was still a valuable experience for the Vietnamese baseball team on their journey back to the SEA Games after 14 years of absence, where each inning was a lesson to help them mature on the regional stage.

Despite the failure, this is still a memorable part of the historical journey of Vietnamese baseball, when this sport returned to the SEA Games arena for the first time after 14 years. Baseball had just begun to build a movement in the country.

This year's return brings a young, completely new squad, athletes who come to baseball with passion, self-training and commitment to a sport that is still very new in Vietnam.

However, the whole team still maintained a resilient fighting spirit, trying to keep up with every throw and every hit, trying to narrow the gap and taking advantage of every opportunity to make an impression against an opponent with superior class.

On the sidelines, there is also the Vice President of the Vietnam Baseball Federation, Mr. Hoang Trung Kien, who always watches every pitch and every hit of the young players.

The tight round-robin schedule means the team has almost no days off, and their physical strength and performance are significantly affected. Vietnam has three more matches to play against Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia, all of which are strong teams in the region.

To keep the hope of competing for the bronze medal, the young baseball players will have to try harder in the rest of the tournament, continuing to maintain the brave spirit as shown in the special journey of Vietnamese baseball at SEA Games 33.
