On the afternoon of October 19, the organizing committee of the 33rd SEA Games conducted the draw for the volleyball group. According to the results, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is in group B with the opponents: Indonesia, Myanmar and Malaysia.
In theory, only Indonesia is capable of causing difficulties for coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team. But in reality, the country’s women’s volleyball team has declined a lot in recent times. Apart from Megawati, who has played abroad, the remaining positions are not of high quality.
Even when they were strong, the Indonesian women’s volleyball team rarely caused difficulties for Vietnam. At the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, they suffered a 2-3 defeat to coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet’s team in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Myanmar and Malaysia have never been strong in women's volleyball. Therefore, this can be considered an easy group for the Vietnamese team.
Meanwhile, host Thailand will face a tough challenge in Group A. They will have to face the Philippines, a team that has improved a lot in recent years. They are currently ranked 46th in the world and are the third team in Southeast Asia, after Thailand and Vietnam.
Of course, Thailand is still considered to be the better team in terms of skill level. But the press of this country still considers this a difficult group even though they are the host.
In the men's category, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team is in group A with Thailand, Singapore and Laos. This is not an easy group, but coach Tran Dinh Tien's team still has a chance to get a ticket to the semi-finals.
Group B includes defending champion Indonesia, runner-up Cambodia, Philippines and Myanmar. The 33rd SEA Games organizing committee has not yet announced the specific schedule and venue for indoor volleyball. The only information released is that the finals will take place at Hua Mak Stadium, Bangkok.
