Brighton priced Baleba at 120 million euros

Brighton have set a transfer fee of up to 120 million euros (about 139.4 million USD) for Carlos Baleba - the midfielder who is attracting interest from both Manchester United and Manchester City, according to ESPN.

Brighton signed Baleba from Lille in 2023 for €30m.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has long admired Baleba's talent, while Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim also rates the Cameroonian midfielder highly. However, sources say Manchester United have yet to contact Brighton, and the deal will become more complicated after the Old Trafford club completed the signing of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig - a deal worth around €85 million including add-ons.

The opportunity to sign Baleba will only open up for Man United if they can clear out players who are no longer in Amorim's plans, such as Alejandro Garnacho. However, Baleba himself is not currently pressing for a move, and a potential deal is likely to only happen next summer.

Baleba had an impressive season under Fabian Hürzeler, making 34 Premier League appearances, scoring three goals and providing one assist. He stood out for his physical strength, ability to control space and versatility in midfield.

Brighton signed Baleba from Lille in 2023 for €30m. Under the agreement between the two clubs, Lille will receive 20% of any difference if Brighton sell Baleba for more than this amount.

If he leaves Amex, Baleba will join the list of stars Brighton has sold for high prices to big Premier League teams. Previously, Caicedo, Cucurella and João Pedro joined Chelsea, while Ben White (Arsenal), Bissouma (Tottenham) and Mac Allister (Liverpool) are also typical deals of Brighton's effective transfer policy.
