BSR pays tribute and offers flowers to commemorate the late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet - the person who laid the historical foundation for the construction of Dung Quat Oil Refinery and celebrates the 63rd anniversary of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Industry's tradition day.
On November 22, at the Dung Quat Oil Refinery Administration Area, Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company ( BSR ) held a flower offering ceremony to commemorate the 102nd birthday of the late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet - "Uncle Sau Dan" (November 23, 1922 - November 23, 2024) and the 63rd anniversary of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Industry's traditional day (November 27, 1961 - November 27, 2024). Attending the ceremony were Mr. Bui Minh Tien - Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Member of the Board of Members of Vietnam Oil and Gas Group; Mr. Nguyen Van Hoi - Party Secretary, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BSR; Mr. Bui Ngoc Duong - Member of the Executive Committee of the Party Committee of Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, General Director of BSR; and comrades in the Board of Directors, Board of Directors of the Plant; representatives of the Functional Departments; Heads of BSR mass organizations and BSR employees.
Panorama of the flower offering ceremony in memory of the late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet. Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet was born on November 23, 1922 in Trung Luong commune, Vung Liem district, Vinh Long province (now Trung Hiep commune, Vung Liem district, Vinh Long province). 30 years ago, on September 19, 1994, Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet directly inspected the Dung Quat Bay - Quang Ngai area and instructed the central ministries and branches to coordinate with Quang Ngai province to continue surveying and planning the Concentrated Industrial Zone and researching the construction of the No. 1 Oil Refinery and Dung Quat Deep-water Port. After the intention to locate the first NMLD of Vietnam in Quang Ngai province, there were many opposing opinions, many scientists objected and it was always a "hot" topic of discussion in the National Assembly sessions at that time. Many people suggested that the oil refinery should be built in Long Son (Vung Tau) near the oil mine to save on transportation costs. Moreover, Dung Quat is an empty land, far from major economic centers, with poor infrastructure, so it will be very difficult to build an oil refinery here. After many discussions and listening to opinions, Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet still firmly chose “Dung Quat” to build the country’s first oil refinery. He did not simply look at the profits from oil refining but looked at the project in terms of the overall development of the country.
Mr. Bui Ngoc Duong - General Director of BSR spoke in memory of Uncle Sau Dan. At the 7th session of the 11th term (June 2005) of the National Assembly, former Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet sent a letter to the National Assembly: "Up to now, if reconsidered, I still choose Dung Quat as the location to build the Oil Refinery as initially assessed, to make a very meaningful contribution to the Central economic region and to the whole country in the process of promoting industrialization and modernization on the path of international economic integration". That statement has become a great motivation for generations of Oil and Gas workers to be determined to build and operate Dung Quat Oil Refinery safely, stably and effectively. Since officially coming into operation in 2009, Dung Quat Oil Refinery has always operated safely and stably at optimal capacity. To date, the factory has produced more than 96.4 million tons of products, bringing in total revenue for BSR of nearly 1.7 million billion VND and contributing more than 230 trillion VND to the state budget. BSR has actively contributed to the country's economic development and has increasingly played an important role as the Government's macro-regulatory tool related to petroleum supply, ensuring national energy security and providing special fuels for national defense. To commemorate the great contributions of Uncle Sau Dan, all BSR employees held a flower offering ceremony to celebrate the 102nd anniversary of Uncle Sau Dan's birthday. This annual activity aims to spread cultural values and is also an opportunity for BSR employees to respond to the 63rd anniversary of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Industry's tradition day (November 27, 1961 - November 27, 2024). Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Bui Ngoc Duong - General Director of BSR shared that, right at the Dung Quat Oil Refinery campus, nearly 30 years ago, there was a vast white sand beach. Even those with a romantic mind and rich imagination could not have imagined that there would be a modern oil refinery like today. The land of Dung Quat is full of white sand and bushes; people live all year round on the forest and the sea, the poorest economy in the country, now wearing a new coat. Since coming into operation, Dung Quat Oil Refinery has also become the "nucleus" attracting large projects to Quang Ngai , positively impacting the formation of the National Energy and Petrochemical Center in Dung Quat Economic Zone. “Today, on the occasion of the 102nd anniversary of the birth of the late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet (November 23, 1922 - November 23, 2024) and the 63rd anniversary of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Industry's traditional day (November 27, 1961 - November 27, 2024), we respectfully offer flowers to commemorate Uncle Sau Dan - a loving name that the people gave him during his lifetime. Allow me to express my most sincere thanks to the authorities of Quang Ngai province, the Group's Board of Directors, the BSR Board of Directors and all BSR employees, regardless of their positions or jobs, with their love for their profession, they have made constant efforts, maintained the flame of enthusiasm, unitedly strived to complete all assigned tasks, contributing to the common achievements of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group in general and Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Company in particular" - BSR General Director Bui Ngoc Duong emphasized.
The representative of BSR's youth union members read the speech of their feelings. Ho Thang - representative of BSR's youth, gave his speech: "The 102nd anniversary of the birth of the late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet and the 63rd anniversary of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Industry's Traditional Day is an opportunity for the youth, BSR's youth union members in particular and all BSR's employees in general to remember and pay tribute to the great and important contributions of the late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet. We, the youth union members with the enthusiasm of youth, are always proud to be a part of the journey of finding the fire of many generations of oil and gas workers, vowing to strive to study, work, be creative, determined to successfully achieve the goals of BSR in particular and of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group in general, contributing our small efforts to realize the strategic ideal that the previous generation set out in the cause of promoting industrialization, modernization, and building an increasingly prosperous Vietnam".
