BTS to perform at the 2026 World Cup final

Chris Martin (Coldplay) personally selected BTS, Madonna, and Shakira for this special performance. The teaser also revealed that all profits from the show will be donated to FIFA's Global Citizen Education Fund.

The initiative aims to raise $100 million to expand access to quality education and football for children worldwide , according to FIFA.

The World Cup final took place on Sunday, July 19th, at MetLife Stadium, which has a capacity of 82,500 seats, in New Jersey. It is considered the world's largest-attended annual sporting event.

BTS participated while on their global tour. For the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, FIFA contacted HYBE directly and selected Jung Kook (BTS) to perform the opening song "Dreamer ." To date, the "Dreamer" music video has over 445 million views, and the opening ceremony performance has nearly 300 million views, both uploaded to BTS and FIFA's channels.

The 2022 Finals attracted over 500 million live viewers, far surpassing even the most-watched Super Bowl in history, the 2025 playoff game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs, which averaged 127.71 million viewers.

FIFA is experimenting with halftime shows for the first time by inviting Doja Cat, Tems, and J Balvin to perform at the 2025 Club World Cup. Both shows are organized in collaboration with Global Citizen and curated by Chris Martin.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has announced plans to hold the first-ever halftime show in the history of the FIFA World Cup finals, starting in March 2025.

At the time, he hadn't revealed the performing artists, the specific duration of the performance, or the halftime break. "This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a performance worthy of the biggest sporting event on the planet," he shared.

Infantino also said that FIFA plans to "take over" Times Square during the weekend of the World Cup final.

Last week, Shakira unveiled the new official song for the 2026 World Cup, titled "Dai Dai ." In the 67-second video, Shakira appears at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, holding the official "Trionda" World Cup 2026 ball, singing a portion of the song in English alongside dancers dressed in the colors of various teams such as the USA and Colombia.

Shakira has a long-standing connection with the World Cup, having performed at the 2006 and 2014 finals, and also released the hit song "Waka Waka" for the 2010 tournament.

The last time the United States hosted the World Cup was in 1994, which had the highest attendance in history. The 2026 World Cup, featuring 48 teams, will kick off on June 11th in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
