Steps to develop transport infrastructure

With the mindset that transportation is the lifeblood of the economy, transportation goes first and opens the way, Ninh Thuan has focused resources on investing in building, upgrading and perfecting transportation infrastructure to maximize potential and development advantages.

In April this year, Ninh Thuan people were very excited when the Cam Lam - Vinh Hao Expressway Construction Investment Project was completed and put into use. This is a key inter-regional traffic project invested by the central government, passing through 3 provinces of Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan with a total length of 78.5 km. Of which, the section passing through Ninh Thuan province is more than 63 km long with a 4-lane design. To implement this national key project, the Provincial People's Committee has resolutely directed the local authorities where the expressway passes through to do a good job of compensation and handover of the site to the construction units; promptly provide and ensure on-site materials for project implementation. Mr. Dang Tien Thang, Deputy General Director of Cam Lam - Vinh Hao Expressway Joint Stock Company said: Along with the direction of the central government, the efforts of the investor and contractor, we have received great support from the local authorities where the project passes through, helping us ensure the project's progress, completing it as planned and on schedule. With the expressway project put into operation, it will connect and clear the Nha Trang expressway axis to the southern provinces, shortening the travel time from Ninh Thuan to Ho Chi Minh City, facilitating the transportation of goods, contributing to promoting the socio-economic development of Ninh Thuan in particular and the South Central region.

To connect the North-South Expressway with Ca Na General Seaport and the southern key economic zone of the province, at the end of 2022, the province started construction of the road connecting the North-South Expressway with National Highway 1 and Ca Na General Seaport. The route is 14.8km long, with a scale of 6 lanes and a total investment of 903 billion VND. Currently, the Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board is implementing the construction of component project 1 connecting the North-South Expressway with National Highway 1, which is more than 10km long. According to the plan, the road connecting the North-South Expressway with National Highway 1 will be completed and put into use in the second quarter of 2024. Thereby, it will connect the North-South Expressway with National Highway 1 and Ca Na General Seaport, opening up a future development for the province's waterway transport and seaport industry. Mr. Truong Xuan Vy, Chairman of Thuan Nam District People's Committee said: The expressway connection road, when completed and put into operation, will be of great significance, creating a breakthrough for the development of Thuan Nam district and the Southern key economic region in general. In the coming time, we will review and do a good job of planning, organizing and effectively exploiting the land fund on both sides of the road to attract investment projects, especially industrial and tourism development projects, taking advantage of the traffic connection, creating a breakthrough for the district and the Southern key economic region of the province.

With the province prioritizing resources to invest in transport infrastructure, up to now, the province's transport network has developed comprehensively, with a total length of over 1,700km, 3.5 times longer than when the province was re-established in 1992. Up to now, the transport system in the province has been connected smoothly to all villages and communes. In particular, the coastal routes, National Highway 1, National Highway 27, along with the Tan Son - Ta Nang connecting road and the North - South expressway passing through the province, after being put into use, will make Ninh Thuan an inter-regional transport hub, an economic exchange center with the Central Highlands, the Central Coast, the key economic region of the South and the Southeast.

Comrade Nguyen Van Vinh, Director of the Department of Transport, said: In 1992, when the province was re-established, the local transport system was very limited. Regarding roads, the province had National Highway 1 and National Highway 27. The local road system mainly passed through towns and townships with poor road surface quality (mainly asphalt, graded, and dirt roads). Communes in ethnic minority areas were divided, and travel was mainly by rudimentary means, which was very difficult. Up to now, after 32 years of construction and development, the Ninh Thuan transport network has been gradually built according to the plan, forming a complete system from national highways - provincial roads - district roads - to inter-commune roads and commune centers, meeting the needs of travel and socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security.

In the coming time, with the Prime Minister approving the master plan for the development of the national airport system for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, including Thanh Son Airport for dual use. This will help Ninh Thuan complete 5 modes of transport, including: Road, railway, seaport, inland waterway and air; opening up new growth drivers to promote socio-economic development and ensure national defense and security for the locality.

With the remarkable development of the province's transport infrastructure, especially the inter-regional transport projects in recent times, it is the foundation and important premise for Ninh Thuan to develop and become an attractive destination for domestic and foreign investors. In the journey to the future, the thinking of developing transport infrastructure one step ahead that the province is implementing will add more motivation for Ninh Thuan to rise strongly, becoming a province with a good income as set out in the Resolution of the 14th Provincial Party Congress.
