Over the years, Dong Nai has always been a pioneer in transforming agriculture towards organic, modern, green and sustainable. The restructuring of the agricultural sector associated with the development of key crop areas, the application of production processes according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP, organic standards and the expansion of growing area codes have created important breakthroughs, increasing the value of agricultural products and competitiveness in domestic and international markets.
After merging with Binh Phuoc province, Dong Nai province continues to maintain its position as the "capital" of industrial crops in the country with more than 511 thousand hectares of cultivated area. Many of the province's key industrial crops are among the largest in the country, notably rubber, cashew and pepper... industries that contribute significantly to the export value and livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of farming households. At the same time, Dong Nai's agricultural development potential is also very large, with more than 1 million hectares of agricultural land, the province has identified the development of key crop areas with a modern, specialized and export-oriented production orientation.
In the Trang Dai and Tan Trieu wards, the traditional growing areas of Dong Nai have now clearly formed specialized areas including 5 main crops such as rice, vegetables, mango, grapefruit and citrus. Many growing areas have been certified for clean production, organic and high-tech agriculture. Notably, rice and grapefruit are two products with Dong Nai geographical indications and brands on the market.

Not only famous as the “fruit capital of the Eastern region”, many fruit growing areas of Dong Nai province such as durian, mango, grapefruit have met VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards and have been granted growing area codes for export. Photo: Minh Sang.
Not only famous as the “fruit capital of the Eastern region”, many fruit growing areas of Dong Nai province such as durian, mango, grapefruit have met VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards and have been granted growing area codes for export. Cooperatives have applied digital technology to trace the origin, manage the care process and consume products.
Many typical models such as Phu Son Cooperative (formerly Tan Phu) with 350 hectares of durian are granted a growing area code for export to China. Bau Nghe Cooperative (Phuoc Long, formerly Binh Phuoc province) has 200 hectares of durian for official export from 2023. Thanh Binh Banana Cooperative (formerly Trang Bom) with more than 300 hectares of tissue culture bananas, exports an average of 600 tons/month to Qatar, UAE, Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, Japan, China... helping people have a stable income.
Improve crop quality
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Nai province, the province currently has 215 growing area codes, with a total area of over 15,000 hectares, mainly durian, mango, banana, grapefruit and jackfruit. In addition, there are 59 packaging facilities that have been granted codes to serve exports to demanding markets such as China, Japan, Korea and Europe.
Propaganda and technical training for farmers are also given special attention. People are guided to choose high-yield varieties with clear origins, ensuring clean and safe standards. The system of internal roads, irrigation, and electricity for production is also upgraded, contributing to the formation of concentrated production areas and the increasingly popular application of science and technology.

Typically, the formation of a production and consumption chain linking VietGAP mangoes between Phu Ly Mango Cooperative and Binh Minh Cooperative has helped farmers change their mindset from small-scale production to collective production, complying with technical processes and stabilizing output. The price of GAP-certified mangoes is on average 500 VND/kg higher, contributing to increased income.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Nai province, said: “We pay special attention to supporting businesses, cooperatives and farmers in building brands, applying traceability, improving product quality and competitive advantages. This is the only way for Dong Nai agricultural products to go far and stand firm in major markets.”
According to Mr. Thang, the formation of a linkage chain not only ensures output, but also creates conditions for investment in infrastructure for growing areas, such as building internal roads, water-saving irrigation systems, smart irrigation, electricity for irrigation, drying, cold storage, etc. Specialized growing areas are gradually being completed according to modern standards.
Towards 'high-tech capital'
Dong Nai has identified the focus of developing fruit trees and key industrial crops by 2030, aiming to maximize the ecological advantages of each region; Increase added value, promote deep processing; Build large-scale raw material areas; Adapt production to climate change; Link production with environmental protection.
Currently, Dong Nai has more than 75,000 hectares of fruit trees, with an output of about 1.5 million tons/year. It is expected that by 2030, the area will reach 84,000 hectares, with an output of nearly 2.3 million tons/year, focusing on 5 key crops such as mango, durian, banana, grapefruit, and jackfruit. The group of key industrial crops includes: rubber, cashew, coffee, and pepper, with more than 160,000 hectares.
By 2030, Dong Nai aims to have 60% of its agricultural area applying high technology; 100 new cooperative models operating by digital transformation; All key growing areas are assigned with growing area codes and packaging facility codes; Promote e-commerce, build agricultural product brands, and trace origin via QR codes.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang, Vice Chairwoman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee emphasized: "The agricultural sector must strongly transform towards high technology, large-scale and sustainable production. Reforming administrative procedures, attracting investment in agricultural processing, forming large raw material areas and key crops are key tasks."
In the coming period, Dong Nai not only aims to increase output but also focuses on improving quality and value, aiming to become the "high-tech capital" of the Southeast region. Smart agricultural models such as: Automatic irrigation system; Nutrition management by sensor - IoT; Greenhouses, net houses; Pest forecasting system; Post-harvest technology, cold storage, automatic packaging... are expected to completely change traditional production methods. Dong Nai does not only stop at the goal of increasing the value of agricultural products, but also aims to protect the ecological environment, reduce emissions, improve people's lives and build agriculture according to green - clean - sustainable standards.
Developing key crop areas is a major strategy that Dong Nai has continuously invested in, implemented systematically and resolutely. With a large area, strong application of science and technology, large raw material areas and increasingly close production and consumption linkages, Dong Nai is getting closer to the goal of "Modern agriculture - Civilized countryside - Wealthy farmers".
After the merger, Dong Nai owns more than 1 million hectares of agricultural land, forming many areas specializing in growing key crops. The province is also promoting the application of science and technology in the production of new varieties and expanding the areas with assigned growing area codes for export to demanding markets.
