The stamp set, designed by artist James Yang, draws inspiration from mid-20th-century American design and Japanese children's book illustrations. The artist began with pencil sketches on tracing paper, then scanned and refined them digitally. He stated that birds are a versatile and visually appealing metaphor for couples, allowing him to explore themes of romance in a playful way. “I’m a big fan of mid-20th-century design and love the way Charles and Ray Eames, as well as other children’s book illustrators of the time, depicted birds,” Yang said.
The four scenes on the stamp include a pair of birds gazing at branches adorned with tiny white hearts; a blue bird giving a heart-shaped flower to a red bird; two white birds resting in their nest under a heart-shaped moon; and a pair of birds discovering a shower of orange and yellow hearts falling like petals.
The 2026 Love stamps are perpetual stamps and will always be worth the equivalent of the current first-class postage rate of the U.S. Postal Service.
