13 years of widowhood and motivation from the eyes of a child

- In recent shares, Cindy Thai Tai said that some men lack self-respect when approaching her. What rude behaviors do they have and how do you deal with them?

There are people who, when communicating rudely, show from the first sentence that they are uneducated, have no proper education and I automatically do not respond or do not care about them.

There are also people who are qualified but have different natures. I will answer directly that they are not their type, so it is best not to bother me. In person, I will say it, but online, I will block them.

- What is a typical day like for you, from performing to training models? What makes you feel most satisfied in your current life and work?

13 years after my husband passed away, I am still alone. Maybe it is psychological because I witnessed my husband's passing so painfully. If it happened again, I might not be able to bear it. When he passed away, I had to wallow in that quagmire for 5 years and sometimes thought of the most negative things.

I think of my mother's eyes. She raised more than 10 children on her own and still lived to be over 80. Her strength helped me get through it and most importantly, my son.

Xuan Lan tried every way to bring me back to teaching models, especially teaching children. The children's eyes, the hands holding my face, the cute voices of the children helped me to be happier day by day. That was the source of motivation that helped me feel that life was still fun and to go back to work.

On weekends, I teach modeling at Xuan Lan's center from 2-year-old children to ladies and gentlemen. On weekends, I sometimes sing.

In everyday life, I just want to be a normal woman, jeans, t-shirt, just "pretending" to be ordinary will be more comfortable but when I step on stage, I want to be a queen.

- After many years working in showbiz, how do you feel about the change in the way the public perceives transgender people or cross-dressers in the entertainment industry?

From 2000, when I came out as transgender until now, the views have changed a lot. We try to show ourselves well to change the views about transgender people or the LGBT community.

The law has also made huge strides, changing people's perception, recognition and respect for transgender people. I feel happy and grateful for that.

Raising Children in Silence and a Collection of Hundred Dolls

- How do you balance between raising children and life with your current job?

My son is grown up, over 20 years old, married, has a normal life, works and goes to school. Since he was little, I have raised him with the principle of not putting his image in the press. I do not want to disrupt his life, I just want him to be a normal and simple boy. Most importantly, I want him to be at peace, not disrupted like my life.

- Besides being humorous, you are also very strong on life issues. Do you think your voice and inspiration can contribute to education on social issues?

I am the first transgender singer in Vietnam from male to female, so I am always conscious of my image. I do not use my image for business purposes but want to spread and convey the best messages. The most important thing is to spread the image of transgender people as knowledgeable, civilized and strong, and good citizens in society.

So I always contribute, fight and raise issues so that the children and the next generation can see the positive things to learn and avoid the negative things.

- At the age of over 50, you still maintain your spirit. What is the secret to maintaining your health and optimism, especially in life after loss?

I have experienced pain since I was a child, so when I am myself, I understand that life is beautiful, so I enjoy every moment. I have experienced a great fate, lost almost my whole life, so I feel I have to stand up and move on.

Since then, I love life, I don't need luxury goods, I accept whatever people give me but I don't spend money on luxury things anymore. I see that there are many other things to do in life. To live a full life, I must know how to help others around me.

- I heard you like collecting dolls, what special things did you find?

I liked playing with dolls since I was a child, even though I was a boy at the time. My father didn't like it, saying it was sick, imitating girls, boys should play with strong things like guns and tanks. I saved my breakfast money to buy dolls that my father broke and threw away. I glued them together to play with, but my brother found out and broke them and burned them. That was a very painful impression of my hobby since I was a child.

When I grew up and had the means, I bought dolls of my choice. I really liked Barbie dolls, especially the "muse" line because of their supermodel-like bodies. I also liked Fashion Royalty dolls - these were many times more expensive than Barbie.

Until now, I still have this hobby, often going to online doll markets to buy when I see something that catches my eye. Currently, I have over 100 dolls. I just keep buying because I think this is a healthy hobby, not something unusual. Luckily, my mother understands and supports me. When I was preparing to change gender, my mother also agreed and said "go to work early, what are you waiting for?"
