It is noted that from the 2024 admission season, the number of higher education institutions organizing their own exams to serve the increasing admission needs. In addition, many schools tend to increase the quota of considering the results of their own exams for admission.

In 2025, the High School Graduation Exam will enter its first year of implementation under the new plan, so universities have also come up with more innovative plans for their own exams.

The Hanoi National University Aptitude Test (HSA) is one of the private exams that many higher education institutions use the results for admission, with about 90 schools in the 2024 admission season.

To be in line with the 2018 General Education Program, the Hanoi National University's competency assessment exam will have many new points. Director of the Hanoi National University Testing Center Nguyen Tien Thao said: "The format and questions, the exam are adjusted to be in line with the 2018 General Education Program, changing the quality of the questions for the Student Competency Assessment exam".

The HSA exam questions are approximately 75% multiple choice questions with 4 options. The new point in the 2025 competency assessment exam structure will be to add cluster questions in all sections and exam topics.

Especially from 2025, in addition to the Science exam, this year the structure of the competency assessment exam will have an additional English exam so that candidates registering for foreign language-related majors can choose to serve the admission process.

It is expected that the Hanoi National University's capacity assessment exam will be held in 6 rounds at 19 testing locations, and registration will open on February 8, 2025.

To facilitate candidates to review and prepare well for the exam, the Hanoi National University Examination Center has announced sample test questions for the 2025 high school student capacity assessment test. Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City National University is preparing to announce the earliest official information about the exam and sample test questions for capacity assessment from 2025.

According to Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, Director of the Center for Testing and Training Quality Assessment (Ho Chi Minh City National University), the sample test will be announced in the spirit of guiding the new points that have been announced before. The exam will have adjustments in the structure of the test to suit the changes of the new program. These adjustments will lead to changes in the way universities select candidates based on the results of this exam next year.

More opportunities for candidates

Also from 2025, 12th grade students will have another way to apply to pedagogical schools when Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 recently announced that it plans to organize its own exam and use the results of this exam to consider admission to university.

In addition to the plan to organize its own exam, in 2025, Hanoi National University of Education 2 will continue to recruit based on the results of the competency assessment exam of Hanoi National University, Hanoi National University of Education, Ho Chi Minh City National University, and Ho Chi Minh City National University of Education.

The advantage of these separate exams is that they create more opportunities for candidates to be admitted; at the same time, they also help schools be more proactive in selecting suitable students.

However, in the current context of "hundred flowers blooming" in separate exams, experts recommend that candidates need to prepare well mentally, physically and in terms of knowledge to participate in 1-2 separate exams instead of participating in many exams.

According to Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son, organizing a separate exam will create more opportunities for candidates to apply to universities.

If candidates wish to apply for highly competitive majors, they should choose to take 1 or 2 separate exams. Candidates do not need to take many exams because most universities still use the results of the high school graduation exam for admission.
