How to eliminate uric acid with basil that few people know

(Dan Tri) - Although it is just a simple vegetable in the garden, basil has great health values.

When it comes to gout or high uric acid, most people immediately think of abstaining from red meat, alcohol or animal organs. Few people know that, right in the familiar kitchen, a handful of basil can also help the body support the elimination of uric acid, the root cause of severe joint pain.

Basil is a "precious medicine" in the kitchen.

Basil not only adds flavor to dishes but is also considered a medicinal herb in traditional medicine.

According to Oriental medicine, basil (also known as dog basil) has a spicy, warm, aromatic taste, and affects the lung and spleen meridians. This herb helps to disperse wind and cold, is diuretic, detoxifying, stimulates digestion, and reduces inflammation. Because of its warm properties, basil helps circulate blood, disperse cold, and reduce bone and joint pain, especially in cases of rheumatism or joint pain caused by cold.

Modern research has also shown that basil contains many valuable compounds such as flavonoids, eugenol, luteolin and rosmarinic acid. These are powerful antioxidants that can neutralize free radicals and protect cells from damage during purine metabolism, which is the cause of uric acid formation.

A study by Burdwan University (India) shows that the compound eugenol in basil leaves can inhibit the activity of the enzyme xanthine oxidase, the enzyme responsible for converting purines into uric acid.

When this enzyme is inhibited, the amount of uric acid produced is significantly reduced, thereby helping to limit the risk of increased uric acid in the blood, especially in people at risk of gout.

In addition, research by the Indonesian Institute of Medicinal Sciences also noted that basil leaf extract helps increase kidney filtration capacity and supports uric acid excretion through urine.

Thanks to its mild diuretic properties, basil helps the body “cleanse” toxins, purify the blood and reduce the burden on the liver and kidneys, the organs responsible for metabolizing and eliminating waste.

Effectiveness comes from small habits

Basil cannot replace gout medication, but it is a useful piece of the puzzle in a healthy lifestyle. People at risk of increased uric acid should maintain a low-purine diet, limit alcohol, drink enough water and combine the use of plants with natural anti-inflammatory properties such as basil.

How to use is very simple:

- Drink basil water: Boil 5 to 7 basil leaves with 300ml of water for 5 minutes, let cool and drink 1 to 2 times per day.

- Eat fresh: Add basil to salads, pho, vermicelli or soup to add natural antioxidants.

- Absorb essential oils: The scent of basil also helps relax the nerves and aids mild breathing.

Expert advice

Nutritionists say that the most important thing for people with gout is not just what foods they eat but balance.

A diet rich in green vegetables, drinking 2 to 2.5 liters of water per day and maintaining light exercise will help the uric acid excretion process go more smoothly.

The body is like a sophisticated factory, all metabolic processes need coordination. Using basil or other herbs is only really effective when we maintain a moderate lifestyle and provide enough water for the kidneys to function well.
