(NLDO) - The image of a young man with only one hand but working quickly and meticulously cleaning each watermelon suddenly went viral on social networks.
Below the post, many people said they had traveled quite a distance to buy watermelons to support. Comments admired the young man's determination and optimism. After investigation, the owner of the photos circulating online is Nguyen Van Dat (born in 1995), from Vinh Long .
The watermelons were carefully cleaned by Dat.
Dat's right shoulder and left hand coordinate very well and are agile.
At noon, the number of customers gradually decreased. Mr. Dat placed each watermelon on the table. Using his right shoulder to keep the watermelon from rolling, he used his left hand to take out a wet tissue and carefully wipe each watermelon clean.
Although he only has one arm, Mr. Dat works very quickly. He can lift a box of watermelons weighing several dozen kilos with ease.
The 9X guy's sales corner is quite simple, without a sign but is supported by many buyers. On normal days, Dat sells lottery tickets, and on Tet and full moon days, he also sells watermelons.
Thanks to his generous, sociable, and hard-working nature, Dat was lent space in front of his house on Ha Noi Street, Trung Chanh Commune, Hoc Mon District, Ho Chi Minh City by a kind family to sell fruit. Next to it, he placed a deck chair to sleep on at night.
"When I was 15 years old, I was working and my left arm was taken away by a machine. I was very depressed, but after a few months, I was no longer sad. My body gradually got used to having only one arm, and I started to adapt more. Up to now, I don't feel any difficulty at all. Whatever normal people can do, I can do too" - Dat confidently said.
Dat put a canvas chair on the street to sleep while watching the melons.
The 9X guy worked continuously without rest. After cleaning the watermelons, Dat arranged the goods and went to get lottery tickets to sell in the afternoon.
At noon, his back is drenched in sweat but he always has a bright smile. Dat brings a lot of positive energy to those around him.
The 9X guy said this is the second year he sells fruit for Tet. His wife and 2 children went back to Vinh Long to take care of his grandparents and take care of the worship. Dat stayed in Ho Chi Minh City, trying to earn extra money to make ends meet. In addition to watermelon, he also sells papaya, grapefruit and fruit stickers. These are fruits sent from his hometown so the prices are reasonable, mainly sold to people in the area.
"Everyone has their own difficulties and sorrows. But I don't take that as a reason to be self-conscious. On the contrary, I feel lucky because after the incident I still have health. As long as I'm alive, I have everything. Above all, I'm married, have a wife and 2 lovely children. That is my motivation and my greatest happiness" - Dat is optimistic.
On the full moon day, Dat sells lottery tickets and grapefruit.
In the rush of the days leading up to Tet, everyone hopes to return home soon to reunite with their families. Dat is no exception. His biggest wish is to sell all his goods quickly and return home soon to reunite with his wife and children.
