On the afternoon of July 14, the Hanoi People's Committee held a meeting with 126 communes and wards on improving environmental sanitation quality.

Speaking at the meeting, Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tung - Director of Hanoi Police - said that Hanoi Police has completed the installation and put into operation 261 AI cameras attached to 10 utilities throughout the area.

Sitting at the command center, one can "look" to Ben Duc (Huong Pagoda area) and identify each person sitting in the boat, according to the director of Hanoi Police.

Currently, Hanoi City Police are urgently installing additional camera systems to serve the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, when security and order are basically guaranteed.

Regarding the newly installed camera system, Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tung informed that when the system is fully deployed, it is expected that by December 18, Hanoi traffic will no longer need traffic police.

Giving the reason, Mr. Tung said that the new system has the ability to recognize license plates, control traffic in green lanes, and can handle traffic volume and regulation.

In particular, the system has the ability to recognize faces. If a wanted person is anywhere, the camera can automatically identify them and report to the command center.

"In the second package until the third quarter of 2026, all AI cameras will recognize the sidewalk environment, and illegal littering will be captured for processing, only then will people's environmental behavior change.

It is expected that the system will be operational in June 2026, at which time it will ensure order and discipline, including sidewalk and urban order" - Mr. Tung provided more information.

The application of AI in traffic management and urban order is not only a technical step forward, but also a transformation of urban management thinking. Technology helps reduce the burden on functional forces, increase fairness, transparency and efficiency in handling violations.

From business people, drivers, service businesses to lawyers - all opinions agree that: AI is the inevitable future. When operated legally, transparently, and with independent supervision, this system will contribute to shaping a new traffic culture, where people voluntarily comply with and respect the law, for the safety and common civilization of the Capital.

Lawyer Pham Quoc Thanh (Quoc Thai Law Firm) commented that applying AI to traffic management is a modern solution, capable of minimizing conflicts between authorities and people. “If there are images and specific data from the AI system to handle traffic violations, disputes and complaints will be minimized. This is an effective measure to prevent negative consequences. People are protected, and law enforcement forces are also relieved and avoid contacts that can easily lead to risks of public ethics,” said lawyer Thanh.

From drivers, business people, to legal experts, all share the same opinion: if deployed properly and legally, AI is a powerful and fair support tool for both people and the government.
