Cambodia has officially completed the list of sports delegations participating in the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand after the registration deadline closed on December 1. According to information from the Organizing Committee (OC) of host Thailand, the Cambodian delegation will participate with 137 members, including 72 athletes, competing in 12 sports including: Swimming, athletics, eSports, fencing, gymnastics, jujitsu, kickboxing, taekwondo, horse riding, jetski, triathlon and teqball.

Thailand confirmed that Cambodia has completed all administrative procedures and paid all fees as prescribed. The 33rd SEA Games Organizing Committee committed to welcoming the Cambodian delegation according to the standards for participating countries, and to arrange separate accommodation to ensure security as well as maximum support for travel between accommodation and competition venues.
It is worth noting that before completing the official registration, Cambodia had planned to participate in 21 sports, including many important team events such as football, sepak takraw, wrestling, judo, karate, petanque, wushu and pencak silat. However, just a few days before the opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games, the country suddenly announced its withdrawal from 8 sports.
The Cambodian side explained that the decision was made based on risk assessment, especially concerns about the safety of athletes and officials, as some SEA Games venues are located in areas that are heavily affected by flooding and traffic disruption.
Cambodia’s withdrawal from a series of team events has caused significant disruption to the organization. Many tournaments in football, volleyball, and some martial arts have had to adjust their schedules or redraw lots to accommodate the new number of participating teams. The 33rd SEA Games Organizing Committee admitted that this change has put a lot of pressure on the organizing committee due to the tight schedule, especially when many events have detailed competition schedules.
Cambodia’s abrupt withdrawal has also raised concerns about the stability and overall preparations for this year’s Games. This is the second time in a month that the 33rd SEA Games has had to make major adjustments to its events, following the decision to move all events from Songkhla to Bangkok due to flooding.
However, Cambodia still affirmed its determination to compete well in the remaining 12 events, focusing on individual events where they have the ability to compete for medals. The Cambodian delegation is expected to be fully present in Thailand in the coming days, ready to embark on the journey to the 33rd SEA Games.
