Siam Sports newspaper (Thailand) said December 1 is the deadline for sports delegations to register for the 33rd SEA Games and pay fees.
Of which, the Cambodian sports delegation has finalized the number of athletes attending the 33rd SEA Games as 72 athletes and 65 officials and coaches.
Thus, Cambodia will attend the 33rd SEA Games with a total of 137 members, the least in many recent congresses.
According to the previous preliminary registration, Cambodia plans to send 333 athletes to Thailand to compete in 21/50 sports at the 33rd SEA Games.
However, for security reasons following border conflicts between the two countries, Cambodia has decided to reduce the number of athletes participating in the games.
According to the 33rd SEA Games organizing committee, Cambodia will only compete in 12 sports including: swimming, athletics, e-sports, fencing, gymnastics, Ju-jitsu, kickboxing, taekwondo, horse riding, jet skiing, triathlon and teqball.
In the last 7 SEA Games, Cambodia has always had a large number of athletes. The least was SEA Games 26 Indonesia (2011) with 163 athletes. The most was SEA Games 32 at home with more than 800 athletes.
According to Mr. Thana Chaiprasit - Thai sports official, Cambodian athletes will be arranged to stay in a separate hotel from other delegations to ensure security. Mr. Thana Chaiprasit also called on Thai people to warmly welcome Cambodian athletes at the events they participate in at the 33rd SEA Games.
