The 33rd SEA Games Organizing Committee has received information that the Cambodian men's volleyball team has asked to withdraw.
According to Khaosod , the Cambodian sports delegation has just submitted a request to withdraw from the volleyball event at the 33rd SEA Games. If this request is approved by the 33rd SEA Games Organizing Committee, the Cambodian sports delegation will only participate in 12 events at the largest sports event in Southeast Asia in 2025, including: swimming, athletics, e-sports, fencing, gymnastics, jujitsu, kickboxing, taekwondo, horse riding, jet skiing, triathlon and teqball.
Khaosad (Thailand) wrote: “On November 27, 2025, at the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister, Mr. Atthakorn Sirilathayakorn, Minister of Tourism and Sports, chaired a meeting of the Organizing Committee of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games). Notably, Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), revealed in the meeting that the Cambodian national volleyball team recently requested to withdraw from the 33rd SEA Games.”

Khaosod page reported that the Cambodian men's volleyball team withdrew from the 33rd SEA Games.
The Nation website commented that the withdrawal of the Cambodian team from the volleyball event could cause a big disruption in both groups. At the 33rd SEA Games, the Cambodian volleyball team only participated in the men's event, placed in group B, along with Indonesia (reigning champion), Myanmar and the Philippines. Meanwhile, group A includes 4 teams: Thailand (host), Laos, Vietnam, Singapore. Most likely, Thailand will keep the same group with Vietnam, group B will also have only 3 teams.
Cambodia withdraws from 8 sports at SEA Games 2025, including football
The Cambodian men's volleyball team is the current SEA Games runner-up, having made history by reaching the final of the 32nd SEA Games. Before the 33rd SEA Games took place, the Cambodian men's volleyball team also trained very seriously and had set a goal of competing hard to reach the final to defend the silver medal.
“Currently, the request of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) is being seriously considered by the 33rd SEA Games Organizing Committee. If everything is approved, the 33rd SEA Games Organizing Committee will continue to have a headache to consider the arrangement of the 2 groups. Before the volleyball team withdrew, Cambodia also announced and confirmed that it would withdraw in 8 sports including judo, karate, silat, petanque, wrestling, wushu, football and sepak takraw,” Khaosod commented.
