The Cambodian Olympic Committee has just sent a letter to the SEA Games Federation, announcing its withdrawal from 8 sports at the 33rd SEA Games hosted by Thailand from December 9 to 20.
According to the original plan, Cambodia planned to participate in 21 sports. However, in a letter sent to SEA Games Organizing Committee Chaipak Siriwat, Cambodia requested to withdraw from judo, karate, pencak silat, pétanque, wrestling, wushu, football and sepak takraw – all team sports.

However, Cambodia still confirmed that it will send athletes to compete in the remaining 13 events including: swimming, athletics, eSports, fencing, gymnastics, jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, taekwondo, horse riding, jetski, triathlon, teqball and volleyball.
In the letter, Cambodia expressed concerns about safety issues and the desire to protect athletes and delegation members when participating in the tournament. They affirmed that they would maintain their competitive force and hoped that the SEA Games Federation and the Thai Olympic Committee would understand.
Mr. Thana Chaiprasit - Head of the Thai sports delegation, said there was no sign of this decision.
Cambodian media just reported that 300 athletes met with the Sports Minister to receive encouragement.
According to Mr. Thana, Cambodia's withdrawal from all team events will make security simpler, as the number of athletes can be reduced to less than 100 or just slightly more.
