In Thanh Hoa commune, Ms. Truong Thi My Duyen - the official in charge of poverty reduction work in the commune, is jokingly called by the people as "the person who finds poor households". Not because she has the list, but because in every review or search for support models, she is always the first to be present at each household. For Ms. Duyen, poverty reduction is not just about processing documents but about staying close to the area, seeing with her own eyes and hearing with her own ears.

Ms. Truong Thi My Duyen (left cover) visits homes to advise on suitable livelihood models for poor households in the area.
Every week, she spends the whole afternoon visiting each poor and near-poor household to learn about their health, employment, and ability to change their livelihoods. “The list is just the tip of the iceberg; to truly reduce poverty, you have to meet with the people many times,” Duyen shared. Therefore, she rarely conducts a cursory survey; every detail is meticulously recorded.
One of the cases she closely followed was the family of Mrs. Duong Thi Be (living in An Dong hamlet). After 3 visits to her house to learn and advise, Ms. Duyen suggested that she switch to the frog farming model, which is suitable for her health, easy to do and provides a stable income. "Now I'm switching to the frog farming model, in December 2025, I will receive a model worth 24 million VND, disbursed in installments. Without Ms. Duyen's detailed explanation, I would have had a hard time understanding it," said Ms. Be.
Ms. Duyen accompanies households that have just escaped poverty even more closely. Every month, she comes to check the use of capital, guides them to avoid risks and advises them on expanding their livelihoods if possible. Ms. Duyen shares: “Even though they have escaped poverty, if they do not follow up, they can easily return to the starting point. My work rarely ends during office hours, sometimes it takes until the evening. When people are still in difficulty, I have to regularly come to help.”
Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Commune People's Committee Ma Thanh Dien assessed: "Ms. Duyen understands the people very well, thanks to that, the model of supporting the right subjects brings clear results. By the beginning of 2025, the whole commune will have only 29 poor households, by the beginning of 2026, it is expected that 11 households will escape poverty."
Ms. Duyen is one of many examples of grassroots cadres who are tirelessly “going to every alley, knocking on every door” to help people escape poverty. They directly engage with the people, attaching personal responsibility to each household. It is the closeness, perseverance and spirit of not being afraid of difficulties of cadres like Ms. Duyen that have contributed to helping poverty reduction work become more substantial./.
