Phu Dien Cham Tower relic (Phu Vinh commune, Hue city ) is one of the earliest remaining Cham brick architectures in the Central region, dating back to around the 8th century.

However, this thousand-year-old structure was flooded during heavy rains that lasted from late October to early November.

According to the Hue City History Museum, the structure is located 5-7m below the coastal sandbank, lower than sea level, so when the floodwaters rise, the entire foundation is submerged nearly 1m for many days.

Faced with the risk of prolonged moisture seepage that could damage ancient brick structures, the Hue City People's Committee and the Department of Culture and Sports have directed the History Museum to coordinate with the Phu Vinh Commune People's Committee to deploy many high-capacity pumps to drain water from the tower area.

Lao Dong reporters' records show that the water inside the relic had been completely drained many days ago.

However, after many days of soaking in water, the base of the tower appeared covered with green, damp moss.

The Phu Dien Cham Tower relic was discovered in 2001 in Phu Dien commune (now Phu Vinh commune). It is one of the ancient Cham Pa relics found under the coastal sand. It has great historical, archaeological and cultural value. Phu Dien tower has been recognized as a National Architectural and Artistic Relic.

The tower has a rectangular structure 8.22m long and 7.12m wide. The main door of the tower faces east.

Phu Dien Tower is being preserved in a greenhouse to limit the impact from the natural environment.

But the recent prolonged flooding has made many people worry about the safety of the relic.

Speaking to Lao Dong reporter, Mr. Nguyen Duc Loc - Director of Hue City History Museum said that since the tower was excavated, this is the first time the relic has been flooded like this. Currently, the unit is coordinating with specialized agencies to develop a long-term flood prevention plan.
