At the workshop, Mr. Pham Huy Binh, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, assessed that Can Gio possesses rare advantages, having both a sea and a river estuary, as well as a mangrove forest ecosystem recognized by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve. With the completion of a series of strategic infrastructure projects such as ring roads, expressways, coastal connecting corridors, and Long Thanh International Airport, Can Gio will become an important link in Ho Chi Minh City's new economic , tourism, and logistics network.
Ms. Huynh Phan Phuong Hoang, Deputy General Director of Vietravel , stated that Ho Chi Minh City is shifting from a mindset of exploiting existing resources to creating new tourism products, while strengthening links with Binh Duong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, and neighboring localities to form a chain of inter-regional products. "After participating in activities in the center of Ho Chi Minh City, tourists can continue their relaxation and experiences in Can Gio and other connected destinations. This approach helps extend their stay and increase their spending," Ms. Hoang said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam, Sales Director of Vinhomes Joint Stock Company, said that the Vinhomes Green Paradise project is being implemented according to the ESG++ orientation, focusing on enhanced environmental, social, and governance criteria. To date, the project has completed more than 2,000 hectares of land reclamation along with approximately 200 km of internal transportation infrastructure. Can Gio's special advantage lies in its location adjacent to the UNESCO-recognized mangrove forest ecosystem. "Currently, Ho Chi Minh City only has one large-scale coastal megacity located next to a world biosphere reserve. This is a very unique value that not many places possess," he said.
Dr. Dinh The Hien noted that what is impressive is not only the scale of the project but also the speed of infrastructure development in Can Gio recently. However, to form a new growth pole, additional operational capacity and accompanying breakthrough mechanisms are needed. "Many large projects in the past have learned lessons about investment efficiency and implementation capabilities. Therefore, in addition to planning and investment capital, the important thing is actual operational capacity and sufficiently flexible institutions," Dr. Hien emphasized.

Towards a "super destination" model
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, Marketing Director of Vinpearl Joint Stock Company, stated that the current global tourism trend is shifting from individual products to "super destinations" where tourists can experience a full range of accommodation, relaxation, shopping, entertainment, healthcare, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) activities within a single ecosystem. Vinhomes Green Paradise is oriented towards an "integrated city" model, with a large-scale tourism, accommodation, and entertainment ecosystem. The project is also expected to benefit from the completion of strategic infrastructure routes such as the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway, the Ben Thanh - Can Gio high-speed railway, and future coastal connecting corridors. According to the plan, the project could add approximately 230,000 residents and is expected to welcome around 40 million visitors annually in the future.
Architect Khuong Van Muoi, former Vice President of the Vietnam Architects Association, believes that the 40 million visitor target is a planning objective but not the final limit if the locality can develop a sufficiently attractive ecosystem for recreation, relaxation, and entertainment. Iconic structures, large-scale resort complexes, and a synchronized service ecosystem will contribute to elevating the Can Gio tourism brand on the international map.
Representing the local government, Ms. Vo Thi Diem Phuong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Gio Commune, said that the locality is preparing infrastructure, human resources, and urban management models to welcome a new phase of development. If it reaches a scale of approximately 40 million visitors per year as predicted by experts, Can Gio will no longer be a weekend tourist destination but will become a large-scale marine economic, tourism, and ecological urban center. "Can Gio is oriented towards developing into an ecological urban area associated with trade, tourism, services, and night-time economy, while simultaneously aiming to preserve the biosphere reserve and maintain local identity. Development must go hand in hand with conservation. The biosphere reserve is the core value that will create Can Gio's competitive advantage in the future," Ms. Phuong emphasized.
