Can Tho spends 457 billion VND to support tuition fees for the 2025-2026 school year

Can Tho City People's Council passed a resolution on tuition fees for 2025-2026, compensation for preschool children, public and private students, with a total cost of nearly 457 billion VND.

At the meeting held on November 14, the People's Council of Can Tho City passed a resolution regulating tuition fees and tuition support policies for the 2025-2026 school year. The draft aims to ensure fairness between public, private and non-public educational institutions in the area.

According to the report of Can Tho City People's Committee, the total estimated cost to implement this policy is about 457 billion VND.

Accordingly, tuition fees at public preschools and general education institutions that are not self-sufficient in regular expenses are divided by region: for preschools and primary school students, tuition fees in wards are 100,000 VND/month/student, in communes are 90,000 VND/month/student; secondary school students in wards are 120,000 VND/month, in communes are 100,000 VND/month; high school students in wards are 140,000 VND/month, in communes are 120,000 VND/month.

Online learning applies 75% of the prescribed tuition fee.

Based on this tuition fee, the city budget will compensate public educational institutions and support 100% of tuition fees for students studying at private institutions.

The total budget for implementing this policy is about 457 billion VND, of which the budget to support students from private schools is 19 billion VND. This is an important resource to ensure that educational institutions fully implement the general education program, while reducing the tuition burden for parents.

According to the People's Committee of Can Tho City, the issuance of the resolution is necessary to fully prepare funding sources and policy framework before the new school year begins, while affirming the city government's commitment to improving the quality of education, supporting students, especially children in difficult circumstances and non-public educational institutions.
