6 projects invested to ensure electricity for Can Tho city
Currently, the power transmission grid supplying electricity to Can Tho city includes 8 transformer stations (TSAs) with a total capacity of 4,775 MVA. Along with that, there are 6 500 kV lines and 22 220 kV lines connecting the power source in the area with a total length of nearly 580 km.
In the first 10 months of 2025, the power transmission system in the area operated stably and reliably, well meeting the socio -economic development needs of Can Tho City. However, to ensure the ability to release power sources in the area and increase the reliability of power supply for the following years, it is necessary to accelerate the progress of transmission projects.
Currently, EVNNPT is implementing 6 projects in Can Tho city, of which 3 projects are under construction.
Specifically, the 500 kV O Mon - Thot Not transmission line project has a length of 35.2 km, expected to be energized in the fourth quarter of 2025. Currently, the project still has 228 households whose compensation plan has not been approved, about 149 cases with affected houses and structures under the project corridor have not been cleared, and 25 households have had compensation plans but have not received money according to the decision approved by the competent authority.
The 220 kV Lap Vo substation project and the Thot Not - Lap Vo connecting line have a scale of building a new 220/110 kV substation with 2 220/110 kV - 250 MVA transformers, installing one transformer in this phase. Constructing a new 220 kV double-circuit line from the 500/220 kV Thot Not substation to the 220 kV Lap Vo substation with a length of about 18.64 km, the section passing through Can Tho city is 4.2 km long, including 14 pole positions. According to the project plan, it will be energized in the third quarter of 2025, but due to problems with the connecting line site, the project has not been completed yet.
The project to install the second transformer of the 500 kV Thot Not substation is built in the premises of the 500 kV Thot Not substation in Thuan Hung ward. The project is under construction and is expected to be energized in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Three projects are in the investment preparation stage, including: Project to increase the capacity of Tra Noc 220 kV substation from (125 + 250) MVA to 2x250 MVA. The project is in the design and estimate stage. The project is expected to start construction in the third quarter of 2027 and be energized in the third quarter of 2028.
The 500 kV LNG Bac Lieu - Thot Not Transmission Line Project has a scale of building a new 500 kV 2-circuit transmission line, about 130 km long. The project is expected to be built in Ca Mau province and pass through 12 communes and wards of Can Tho city. This is a very important project to release the capacity of the LNG Bac Lieu Power Plant to supply electricity to the power system in general and Can Tho city in particular.
Currently, the project has not yet agreed on the direction of the power line, there is no land use plan; there is no construction plan and the project investment policy has not been approved.
The Thot Not - Duc Hoa 500 kV transmission line project has a scale of building a new 500 kV 02-circuit transmission line, about 125 km long. The transmission line is expected to pass through 2 wards of Can Tho city and Dong Thap and Tay Ninh provinces. The project ensures synchronization of the operation phase of the Bac Lieu LNG power plant to ensure electricity supply for Can Tho city and neighboring localities.
However, up to now, the project has not been approved by the competent authority for the route of the power line; the competent authority has not approved the project investment policy.

EVNNPT makes a series of recommendations to ensure project progress.
At the meeting, EVNNPT General Director Pham Le Phu thanked the leaders of Can Tho City and departments, branches and localities for their interest, support and assistance to EVNNPT in investing in projects in the area to meet the electricity demand as well as relieve power sources in the area.
In order to ensure the progress of projects, especially projects under construction, EVNNPT requests the People's Committee of Can Tho City to consider and issue specific support levels for households building houses on agricultural land that are forced to relocate but do not meet the conditions for compensation and resettlement as a basis for implementing support and site clearance plans according to regulations.
Directing local authorities to support propaganda and mobilization work for households cultivating contracted land to agree and coordinate to ensure smooth wire pulling construction of the 500 kV O Mon - Thot Not transmission line project.
For the Lap Vo 220 kV substation project and the Thot Not - Lap Vo connecting line, it is recommended that Can Tho City direct the People's Committees of Thuan Hung and Tan Loc wards to help propagate and mobilize households to hand over the site of part 14 of the pier foundation positions in parallel with the implementation of the site clearance compensation process.
For the project of installing the second transformer of the 500 kV Thot Not substation, the People's Committee of Thuan Hung ward was directed to help propagate and mobilize households to hand over the land area for land acquisition in parallel with the implementation of the compensation and site clearance process.
For projects in the investment preparation stage, including the 500 kV LNG Bac Lieu - Thot Not transmission line project and the 500 kV Thot Not - Duc Hoa transmission line project, consider and include them in the list of key works and projects of the city in the period 2025-2030.
Recommend early consideration, comments and early approval of the route of the power lines passing through Can Tho City. Direct the departments, branches and local People's Committees where the lines pass through to help provide information on planning, boundaries, current land use status, technical infrastructure and population to complete the route agreement dossier.
Regarding the investment policy, the Department of Finance is requested to promptly receive and process the investment policy approval dossier, and at the same time approve the investor to implement the 500 kV LNG Bac Lieu - Thot Not transmission line project.
Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Vuong Quoc Nam thanked EVNNPT and its affiliated units for their investment in ensuring electricity supply to serve the socio-economic development of the City.
Emphasizing the role of power transmission projects is very important to ensure energy security of the City as well as the country, so relevant departments, branches and localities urgently review and update the direction of power lines into the city's planning; arrange land funds for power transmission projects.
Along with that, pay special attention to power transmission projects so that problems are resolved as quickly as possible.
For the 3 projects under construction, the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City requested departments, branches and localities to take drastic action and quickly complete procedures related to compensation and site clearance to hand over to investors.
Localities must identify the implementation of site clearance compensation as their responsibility, thereby mobilizing the entire political system to participate and propagate and persuade households to agree with the project.
The Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee assigned the Department of Industry and Trade to coordinate with EVNNPT, synthesize weekly progress reports, advise the Provincial People's Committee to direct the handling of difficulties in EVNNPT projects being implemented in the province; results of handling EVNNPT's proposals for route agreement work, updating land use planning and contents related to investment policy procedures of projects.
