Although the rain showers lasted only 15-20 minutes, they somewhat alleviated the oppressive heat after several days of scorching sun. The unseasonal rain also provided refreshing water for many summer-autumn rice fields, orchards, and vegetable crops, especially in areas affected by saltwater intrusion and lacking freshwater for agricultural production.
According to forecasts from relevant authorities, the Southern region of Vietnam will experience transitional rains in the latter half of May. Authorities advise people to be wary of thunderstorms, tornadoes, and strong winds during this period. They recommend checking rural power lines and those near homes; trimming large trees near schools, markets, roads, and around houses. People working in fields should avoid carrying metal tools such as hoes, shovels, and other electrical conductors during thunderstorms. When thunderstorms occur, seek safe shelter. Do not take shelter under power poles, large trees, bridges, combine harvesters, or plows. Pay attention to safety when traveling during thunderstorms.
