Until when can a person with a blood pressure of 1.5 degrees be exempted from military service?

Mr. A. (22 years old, currently studying for a Master's degree in Hanoi) has just received an order for a medical examination for military service. After the examination, the Medical Examination Council concluded that Mr. A. has 2 diopters of myopia and is not healthy enough to serve in the army, so he was deferred. Mr. A. wondered: If I do not have eye surgery or wear corrective lenses, how long will my deferment last? Do I have to undergo a medical examination every year?. The concern of Mr. Nguyen Van A. Answer: According to current regulations on health standards for selecting citizens for military service, cases with eye diseases such as nearsightedness, farsightedness with glasses from 1.5 to 3 degrees will be classified as unqualified health (Type 3 or higher) and may be eligible for temporary deferment of military service. The specific condition will be concluded by the Military Service Health Examination Council.

Article 41, Clause 3 of the 2015 Law on Military Service stipulates postponement and exemption from military service as follows:

3. Citizens subject to temporary deferment from military service as prescribed in Clause 1 of this Article, if there is no longer a reason for deferment, will be called up for military service.

Citizens who are eligible for temporary deferment or exemption from military service as prescribed in Clause 1 and Clause 2 of this Article, if they volunteer, will be considered for selection and military service.

Therefore, within the age of military service (from 18 years old to December 31 of the year the citizen turns 27 years old), if a citizen falls into one of the cases of temporary deferment of military service, the deferment will be postponed until there is no longer a reason for deferment.

In case the Military Service Health Examination Council concludes that the citizen is not fit for military service after the health examination, the citizen will be temporarily deferred. If the citizen's health is then satisfactory according to the conclusion of the Health Examination Council and does not fall into the cases of exemption, deferment, etc., then he/she can join military service.

Note: Every year, if there is a medical examination order, citizens must still perform it to receive a conclusion from the Military Service Medical Examination Council.
