In many provinces in the South Central region, the production activities of people and businesses are still heavily affected by natural disasters. Many establishments are lacking resources for reinvestment and the need to access preferential loan packages has become urgent to restore livelihoods and ensure that the supply chain is not further disrupted.
This year, Mr. Dang Ngoc Duong ( Gia Lai ) planted more than 1,000 pots of apricot blossoms, but after the storm and flood, he had to helplessly watch more than 500 pots of apricot blossoms bloom en masse. In An Nhon Bac ward - the largest apricot growing area in Gia Lai province, the recent storm broke branches and exhausted the trees.
After the storm, floods came, causing the flowers to bloom, almost beyond saving, especially most of the valuable apricot trees, from tens to hundreds of millions of dong, had almost all bloomed and were almost impossible to recover to sell for Tet.
"Growing apricot trees takes 4 to 5 years to generate revenue, a long time, so now the most important thing is to have preferential loans to stabilize production," Mr. Duong shared.
In two consecutive natural disasters, the agricultural sector of Gia Lai province suffered losses of more than 3,500 billion VND. The Gia Lai province Social Policy Bank also quickly compiled statistics on households with loans that suffered losses of 40% or more due to natural disasters. These households will be considered for debt extension and debt forgiveness. In cases where borrowers suffered human casualties, the debt will be considered for debt cancellation.

In many provinces in the South Central region, production activities of people and businesses are still heavily affected by natural disasters.
In Gia Lai province, it is estimated that businesses have suffered more than 1,500 billion VND in damage after the recent storm and flood. Having to ensure signed orders and repair damaged factories, businesses are in dire need of support from the government and credit institutions.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nguyen - Deputy Head of the Gia Lai Province Economic Zone Management Board expressed: "Recommend that the State Bank of Vietnam direct commercial banks to pay attention and have mechanisms to support credit interest rates, debt forgiveness, debt extension... for businesses that have suffered damage caused by storms and floods".
The most important thing right now is for both the banking system and the government to support and share the financial burden with preferential capital and flexible policies, so that businesses can reproduce and people can ensure their long-term livelihoods.
