Hai Phong Port has reached the milestone of 2 million TEU in a single year for the first time.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Hai Phong Port will welcome its 2 millionth TEU in 2025 at TIL International Port, marking the first time in over 150 years of its formation and development that it has reached a throughput of over 2 million TEU.

The event, which took place on December 14th, was a particularly important milestone, affirming the remarkable development of Hai Phong Port and its role as an international maritime gateway for the northern region. This also marked the first time a northern seaport achieved a throughput of over 2 million TEU in a single year.

Over the years, Hai Phong Port has consistently pursued a strategy of investment and expansion towards modernization and sustainability. The commissioning of container berths No. 3 and 4 at Lach Huyen Port from the beginning of 2025 has enhanced its capacity to receive large-tonnage vessels.

Along with investing in new infrastructure, the port is simultaneously upgrading facilities, equipment, and technology at Hoang Dieu - Chua Ve, Tan Vu, Dinh Vu ports and TIL Hai Phong International Port, while also promoting digital transformation in management and operation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Tuong Anh, General Director of Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company, said that the 2 millionth TEU is not only a milestone in terms of throughput but also a symbol of the maturity, international integration, and development aspirations of Hai Phong Port in the new phase.

In logistics, TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) is a standard unit of measurement used to convert container dimensions, equivalent to a 20-foot container. This unit helps calculate ship and port capacity and statistically track the volume of goods transported globally, thereby simplifying supply chain management.

1 TEU is equivalent to a 20-foot container, measuring 20 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 8.5 feet high, with a capacity of approximately 39 cubic meters of cargo.
