To meet the increased travel demand of people during the Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse) and the Spring Festival season of 2026, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has sent a document to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), requesting the implementation of a plan to operate night flights at six airports.
Accordingly, Tho Xuan Airport is one of the priority units for adjusting its operating hours. Specifically, from February 1st, 2026 to March 1st, 2026 (local time), Tho Xuan Airport will extend its operating hours from the current 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM the previous day to 2:40 AM the following day , creating conditions for more night flights and reducing pressure on peak daytime hours.
Along with Tho Xuan Airport, five other airports also had their operating hours adjusted during this peak period: Dong Hoi, Chu Lai, Phu Cat, Pleiku, and Tuy Hoa. This extension of operating hours aims to help airlines proactively increase flight frequencies and arrange flights more flexibly, meeting the travel needs of people during Tet (Lunar New Year) for holiday trips and visiting relatives.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) requires ACV and VATM to proactively allocate sufficient personnel and equipment, and to coordinate closely with airlines and relevant units to organize safe and smooth night flight operations, ensuring aviation security, flight safety, and efficient air traffic control. At the same time, the units need to develop contingency plans and be ready to handle any unforeseen situations, especially during nighttime operations and in adverse weather conditions.
The Vietnamese aviation industry forecasts a sharp increase in passenger traffic during the Lunar New Year holiday of 2026 (Year of the Horse), with millions of seats available across both domestic and international routes. This is evidenced by many flights being fully booked, ticket prices soaring, and airlines having to add a large number of flights to meet the surge in travel demand. Vietnam Airlines Group announced that it will provide more than 3.5 million seats on its flight network to serve the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday in 2026, including both domestic and international flights, catering to millions of travelers during this period. |
To avoid congestion at the airport, airlines recommend that passengers prioritize online check-in or use biometric technology to proceed directly to the screening area if they do not have checked baggage.
