Looking for a flight ticket for Tet At Ty 2025 from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi , Thu Thao, 28 years old, an office worker, was as happy as if she had won the lottery when she saw the website's homepage announcing a round-trip ticket price of just over 2 million VND. She immediately pressed the booking button and made the payment as required. The system sent her a booking code, requiring her to transfer money immediately to reserve her seat.
Because the website interface looked similar to the homepage of Vietnam Airlines, she did not suspect anything. However, after waiting for a long time without receiving the ticket issuance email as usual, Thao contacted the Vietnam Airlines hotline and realized that she had been scammed. She looked for the phone number of the agent who had given her the previous payment instructions, but the number was blocked and she lost contact.

Warning of scams selling airline tickets for Lunar New Year 2025
Many tricks to buy cheap Tet flight tickets
According to Vietnam Airlines, recently, the company and authorities have recorded a number of cases of websites, organizations and individuals claiming to be agents of the airline. Specifically, some websites have similar domain names, which can easily confuse customers, such as: vietnamairslines.com ; vietnamaairlines.com ; vietnamairlinesvn.com .
These websites have similar names and addresses, making them difficult to distinguish from the official website https://www.vietnamairlines.com . They only differ in a few letters, which customers with good eyesight can only notice. The scammers also designed the interface, colors, and logos similar to the official website of Vietnam Airlines to deceive users.
After luring buyers with discount programs and shocking deals, the scammers will guide their prey through the procedures to buy tickets. They even send a booking code as a guarantee and require immediate payment or else the money will be canceled. After receiving the money, the subject does not issue tickets and cuts off contact. Because the booking code has not been issued to the plane ticket, it will automatically cancel after a while. Many customers only find out about this when they go to the airport to check in.
Some fake websites run attractive promotions, but when clicking to buy, the system notifies that the tickets are sold out, and users need to leave information, phone number, and email to receive notifications when there are new discount programs.
The subject then continues to send emails and text messages informing customers that they have "won a prize" or received a flight ticket promotion with a link, requesting payment or entering account information to appropriate property.
Not stopping there, many scammers, after receiving money from customers, still issue tickets but then refund the tickets and take most of the money the buyer paid. More sophisticatedly, when customers receive tickets and call the airline to check, they are informed that the tickets have been issued for the correct itinerary. However, a few days later, the person who booked the ticket will send a request to the airline to request a refund. Thus, with each flight ticket, the scammer can sell it to many different people and the buyer will suffer losses, affecting the travel schedule.
Old trick but many people still get fooled
Airline ticket fraud has been going on for many years, and although authorities have intervened, it has not been able to completely eradicate the phenomenon. A representative of Vietnam Airlines said that in order to completely resolve this situation, the company has recently sent a document requesting authorities to handle websites that show signs of violating the use of logos, trademarks, images, website interface designs, and domain names that cause confusion with the trademarks and trade names of Vietnam Airlines.
In the meantime, people should buy tickets on the airline's mobile app, offices and official agents. When buying tickets on the website, users should pay attention to accessing the correct official address of the airline or contact the hotline directly for support.
If offered promotions or surprisingly low prices, users should check carefully. In particular, when buying tickets, customers should also ask the seller to provide invoices in accordance with regulations to protect their rights.
