| Warning about scams impersonating the Social Insurance agency. |
Recently, the Social Insurance agencies in several provinces have received reports from participants in social insurance and health insurance schemes about calls from unknown numbers. Specifically, these callers instruct individuals to go to the commune/ward People's Committee to update their children's electronic health insurance cards (for children under 6 years old), bringing their Citizen Identity Card and the child's health insurance card. The scammers then guide them to add the "Electronic Social Insurance" application on Zalo to assist with installation. Once the victims follow the instructions, the scammers exploit their trust to withdraw money from their bank accounts.
Notably, after the victims discovered their money was missing and reported it, the perpetrators continued with the tactic of "helping them recover their money," requesting them to use a different bank account to process the refund. However, this was actually another scam designed to further defraud people of their money.
The Social Security agency advises people to absolutely not provide OTP codes, bank passwords, or personal information to strangers via phone or social media; and not to install applications from unknown sources as instructed by strangers. When receiving suspicious calls, people should contact the Social Security agency or the nearest police station directly for verification and timely assistance.
