Beware of scammers impersonating employees of Lam Dong Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company to defraud people.

Nguyen Van Dung, Deputy General Director of Lam Dong Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company (LAWACO), has issued a notice urging people to be vigilant against scams involving impersonation of company employees making fraudulent phone calls to extort money.

Recently, Lawaco Company has received numerous complaints from customers regarding individuals posing as employees of Lam Dong Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company, making phone calls to commit fraud, extort money, or provide false information, affecting the company's reputation and brand.

This tactic is particularly dangerous because it exploits people's anxiety and trust in clean water supply services – an essential public service.

More worryingly, these perpetrators are not only targeting money but also attempting to gain control of the phone and steal all personal data, including the victim's bank account information.

According to reports, individuals posing as company employees are calling customers and requesting them to provide their citizen identification cards and property documents to "re-sign water supply contracts." They give the reason: "The information in your water supply contract has expired because you have switched your personal identification documents from the old ID card to the new citizen identification card. You need to update it to avoid interruptions in water service."

For this reason, many people easily fall for it. Then, the scammers lure customers into adding them on Zalo to "assist" in signing contracts or ask them to access fake links to sign online. In reality, these links contain malware; when users access them and fill in their information, personal data – especially banking information – can be stolen.

To prevent fraudsters from exploiting high technology to scam and steal assets, Lam Dong Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company advises customers to absolutely not comply with requests from strangers over the phone related to: re-signing electronic water supply service contracts, instructions on registering water quotas, paying water bills, etc. (including requests to add you on Zalo). Furthermore, do not click on any strange links sent via Zalo, SMS, or email.

Previously, the police in wards and communes throughout the province had issued numerous warnings to protect citizens from sophisticated scams. Authorities emphasized that all official notifications related to water usage contracts are sent in writing or through widely publicized information channels. In particular, public service providers never request citizens to update their personal identification documents via phone or Zalo. All procedures must be carried out at the company's headquarters or through officially authorized and publicly available channels.
