According to initial information from Quynh Phuong Border Guard Station ( Nghe An Border Guard), at about 1:30 p.m. on December 9, the family of fishing boat NA-98687-TS, captained by Mr. Ho Sy Hung, born in 1991, residing in Tan Mai ward, Nghe An province, reported that the boat sank while fishing at coordinates 18°30'51”N - 107°04'16”E, about 50 nautical miles East Northeast of Vung Ang port (Ha Tinh). At the time of the accident, there were 9 crew members on board.
Immediately after receiving the information, the Command of Coast Guard Region 1 mobilized Coast Guard ship 3005 (Flotilla 102) which was performing patrol, inspection and control duties in the Vung Ang sea area to quickly approach the scene; at the same time, coordinate with Nghe An Border Guard, Ha Tinh Border Guard and fishing boats operating near the area to participate in the search.
At the scene, strong winds, darkness and limited visibility made the search difficult. However, the forces still persisted in staying at sea, searching all night in the area where the crew members were suspected to be adrift.
The Coast Guard Region 1 Command said that the force is continuing to expand the search area and closely coordinating with local authorities, determined to soon find the 9 missing fishermen.
