Following the order from the Director of the Traffic Police Department to launch a campaign to crack down on drunk driving, at exactly 10:00 AM on the first day of the Lunar New Year (February 17th), traffic police forces nationwide simultaneously checked drivers.
With the motto "no forbidden zones, no exceptions," and without hesitation during the Lunar New Year holiday, on highways from North to South, the traffic police patrol force of the Traffic Police Department proactively deployed its duties according to the scheduled time.
The inspections were conducted in accordance with procedures and regulations, openly and transparently. With a firm commitment to strictly enforcing regulations while maintaining a civilized attitude, the traffic police combined this with public awareness campaigns, reminding people to absolutely not drive after consuming alcohol.
Preliminary observations indicate that most people complied well with the regulations. Between 10 AM and 2 PM, traffic police inspected 36,735 vehicles; detecting and issuing citations for 809 cases of drunk driving. Additionally, they handled 220 cases of driving without a license, 176 cases of unregistered vehicles, and 36 cases of vehicles without rearview mirrors; temporarily seizing 809 vehicles and 63 driver's licenses.
A representative from the Traffic Police Department stated that the consumption of alcohol on New Year's Day is quite common and easily leads to tragic traffic accidents. Authorities do not prohibit people from drinking alcohol, however, driving after consuming alcoholic beverages is dangerous and prohibited.
This special operation will be carried out continuously throughout the Tet holiday. From 7 PM to 11 PM tonight, traffic police nationwide will continue their control efforts. This is a decisive measure to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of the people during the Lunar New Year celebrations.
