U.23 Vietnam 'out of sync'
U.23 Vietnam entered the match against U.23 Malaysia (December 11) with the goal of winning to decide the ticket to the semi-finals.
In theory, coach Kim Sang-sik and his team are superior to their opponents in terms of class, experience and squad depth. The Korean strategist has an abundant attacking force, especially on the left wing, to create diverse attacks.
However, the left wing of U.23 Vietnam has not yet fully exploited its potential. Both goals scored against U.23 Laos in the opening match came from the right wing. On the left wing, the runners played below their potential.

Typical of the left wing's lackluster performance is captain Van Khang. The player born in 2003 was assigned to play left forward in the 2025 U.23 Southeast Asian tournament, to take advantage of the extremely flexible acceleration and dribbling of the small but fast player. However, since the friendly tournament in China (which took place in October), Van Khang has returned to the left wing position. Facing the "concrete" defense of U.23 Laos, Van Khang could not make a difference, except for his misdirected crosses, not creating clear opportunities. He was replaced in the second half.
Also in the match against U.23 Laos, coach Kim Sang-sik arranged for Dinh Bac to play on the left wing, while Quoc Viet played as a striker. Dinh Bac did indeed score, but both goals of the 21-year-old striker were made when he was... in the middle. The creators were all right wingers, such as Minh Phuc (goal 1) and Thanh Nhan (goal 2).
The consequence of the difference between the two wings is that U.23 Vietnam was locked down the right wing by the opponent. If U.23 Laos could do it, U.23 Malaysia could do much better. Despite the lack of force for many reasons, coach Nafuzi Zain still has wingers with speed, good technique and very tight marking.
Although the right flank of U.23 Malaysia is not the main attacking force ("The Tigers" are still stronger on the left wing), it is enough to hold back Van Khang and his teammates.

Coach Kim Sang-sik needs more from Van Khang

This is the problem that coach Kim Sang-sik needs to solve. He has an abundance of promising left wingers such as Van Khang, Phi Hoang, Van Thuan, Quoc Viet, Dinh Bac, Le Viktor. The left wing is also where the breakthrough factors (whether left-footed or left-footed) can freely show off their ideas, instead of being constrained like the right wing.
Therefore, the lack of ideas on the left wing is a big waste of U.23 Vietnam.
Improvise
Coach Kim Sang-sik is carefully studying the playing style, after analyzing the video of the match where U.23 Malaysia beat U.23 Laos.
U.23 Vietnam needs a new approach on the flanks. Mr. Kim's students will not need to "break concrete", because U.23 Malaysia is inherently not strong in defense.
Although a draw is enough to secure the top spot in the group, most likely, U.23 Malaysia will choose a proactive approach, playing aggressively and aggressively, putting pressure on both wings, using attack as defense to prevent U.23 Vietnam's wingers from advancing.

At that time, coach Kim Sang-sik needed a durable and thick runner on the left wing. Phi Hoang had the opportunity to be used, to combine with left center back Nhat Minh to form a pincer to cover the defense. And on the attacking line, when Dinh Bac was returned to play center forward, the left forward position would belong to Van Khang. The 22-year-old captain was probably more dangerous when given the opportunity to approach the penalty area to freely build up the play, instead of having to run continuously like a "shuttle" on the tactical loom, leading to a waste of creative ability.
The important thing is that coach Kim Sang-sik has many backup plans to rotate in case of a stalemate. U.23 Vietnam lacks a good striker (Dinh Bac is almost the only choice), but has an abundance of talented wingers.
With players who break through and dribble quickly, U.23 Vietnam can turn the left wing into firepower, instead of being stuck like now.
Van Thuan, Quoc Viet, Le Viktor... can all become "trump cards" and have shone many times when given the chance. By awakening the potential of this flank, Mr. Kim's team will fully unlock the strength of the attack.
