The longest vertical expressway in the West is about to reach the finish line.
The Can Tho – Ca Mau Expressway component project, part of the North – South Eastern Expressway, is entering the final construction phase after nearly three years of implementation. With a total length of nearly 111 km and a total investment of more than VND27,500 billion, the project has completed over 90% of the work volume and is expected to be technically opened to traffic on December 19.
This route plays a strategic role, passing through Can Tho city and the provinces of Hau Giang, Bac Lieu , and Ca Mau, contributing to completing the vital traffic network of the Mekong Delta region and the whole country.

Construction progress update
The project is invested by My Thuan Project Management Board (under the Ministry of Construction). To ensure progress, about 1,150 machines and equipment and 2,100 workers have been mobilized, working continuously in 3 shifts and 4 shifts. The starting point of the project at IC2 intersection, connecting with National Highway 91 - Nam Song Hau in Can Tho City, has basically completed the asphalt paving.
According to reports, as of December 6, the total output of the project has reached more than 90%. Contractors are focusing all their resources on completing the remaining items such as traffic safety systems, signs, road markings and branch lines at important intersections.

Efforts from contractors
In the project, Truong Son Corporation is in charge of constructing 20 kilometers of road and 20 bridges. Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Vinh, Deputy Director of Truong Son Nam Department, said that the unit has achieved about 97% of the progress and will complete all assigned items before December 12. Engineer Nguyen Van Trung, commander of the asphalt paving work, shared that the 52-person force has been divided into three shifts working overnight to ensure progress in favorable weather conditions.
Connecting infrastructure and key intersections
The expressway is designed with an initial cross-section of 17 m, with emergency stops spaced approximately 5 km apart. Each stop is 170 m long and a maximum of 3 m wide in both directions.
Important intersections such as IC4 and IC5 (connecting with National Highway 61) are being urgently constructed. In particular, IC5 intersection will open up connectivity for localities in the West of Hau River such as Vi Thanh City, Vi Thuy and Long My districts (Hau Giang) and Go Quao and Giong Rieng districts (Kien Giang) with the North-South expressway axis.

When put into operation, the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway will not only shorten travel time but also create momentum for socio-economic development for the entire region, completing the final piece of the North - South expressway axis stretching from Cao Bang to Dat Mui.
