TBM1 "Than Toc" started its journey from station S9 (Kim Ma) on July 30, 2024. To date, this TBM has completed the entire tunnel drilling journey, passing through 4 underground stations S9 (Kim Ma), S10 (Cat Linh), S11 (Van Mieu) and S12 ( Hanoi Station).
This is the first time in the capital that TBM tunneling technology has been operated underground in the central urban area, passing through areas with high population density, special technical infrastructure and cultural heritage.
After finishing drilling at Station S12 - Hanoi Station, the drilling heads of the TBMs will be dismantled at this station, the remaining auxiliary equipment system will be pulled back and continue to be dismantled at Station S9 - Kim Ma.
In parallel, the TBM2 “Bold” is also constructing the remaining tunnel section. TBM2 is continuing its journey to station S11.
According to the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board, as of December 1, 2025, the overall construction progress of the CP03 package - Tunnels and underground stations reached more than 72%. The tunnel lining casting work has completed 3,395/3,495 tunnel lining rings, meeting the schedule to serve the two operating TBMs.




Mr. Nguyen Ba Son - Deputy Head of Hanoi Railway Management Board (MRB) said: "TBM 1 "Than Toc" reaching the finish line at S12 station today is a historic milestone, not only marking the completion of the first tunnel but also demonstrating the sense of responsibility and persistent efforts of the staff and engineers of the entire project. This is the result of the close direction of the City People's Committee, sponsors, close coordination between departments, agencies, consulting units, contractors and the support of the people of the capital".
Mr. Park Young Ill - Project Director, Representative of Hyundai - Ghella Joint Venture (HGU) shared: “TBM technology is the most advanced tunneling method today, and this is the first time it has been applied in Hanoi. The geological conditions of Hanoi are complex, and the above-ground works are extremely diverse, including new and old buildings, as well as cultural and historical relics. In the face of these technical challenges, we have carried out the preparation work for TBM construction in a very careful and scientific manner. The construction was carried out with high expertise and in strict compliance with safety requirements, with the participation of leading experts mobilized from our major projects around the world. Thanks to this comprehensive preparation, all difficulties and obstacles were effectively handled, helping us achieve excellent results. The successful experience with TBM1 is a solid foundation for us to have complete confidence in the success of TBM2, Construction is currently underway on the section between Station 10 and Station 11.



The Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station urban railway project is a key transport project of the capital, expected to contribute to reducing traffic congestion, improving the public transport system and protecting the environment.
