'Careme - Love yourself' for a healthier Vietnam

(DN) - On the morning of November 2, Alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Minister of Health Vu Manh Ha attended the program "Careme - Love yourself" aiming at early detection and early management of cardiovascular, kidney and metabolic diseases, contributing to building a healthier Vietnam at the Cultural Center of Phu Rieng commune, Dong Nai province. The event was organized by the Ministry of Health in coordination with the Vietnam Young Physicians Association and the Department of Health of Dong Nai province.

Also attending the program were Dr. Ha Anh Duc, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Chairman of the Vietnam Young Physicians Association; Specialist II, Director of the Department of Health of Dong Nai province Do Thi Nguyen; along with leaders of departments, branches, and sectors representing hospitals, businesses, and more than 150 doctors, medical students and volunteers directly participating in examining, consulting and providing free medicine to local people.

The Careme program - an abbreviation for three groups of diseases: Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolic - is a strategic cooperation initiative between the Vietnam Young Physicians Association and AstraZeneca Vietnam Company Limited under the auspices of the Ministry of Health, implemented since 2022. Over the past 3 years, the program has screened more than 200,000 people, detected nearly 10,000 cases of early-stage chronic kidney disease, and deployed the Careme Kiosk and integrated digital technology into the electronic medical record system in many localities. In 2025, the program will be expanded to include screening for cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, combined with rapid testing, ultrasound and on-site electrocardiography.

In his opening speech, Permanent Deputy Minister of Health Vu Manh Ha emphasized: “Non-communicable diseases, especially cardiovascular, kidney and diabetes diseases, are a global health challenge. Vietnam needs to strengthen proactive screening and prevention models in the community. The Careme - Love Yourself program is a concrete example of the public-private partnership model in the health sector, which is both professional and spreads the spirit of compassion, connecting young doctors with the community.”

Dr. Ha Anh Duc, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Chairman of the Vietnam Young Physicians Association, said: “The program is not only a medical campaign but also a journey of love, helping people love and take care of themselves through specific actions: regular health check-ups, compliance with treatment and early prevention. The Vietnam Young Physicians Association is committed to continuing to accompany the Ministry of Health, businesses and localities to spread the spirit of preventive medicine and smart medicine to every citizen.”

In Phu Rieng commune, the program examined, provided health consultation and provided free medicine to more than 1,000 people, focusing on policy families, the elderly, poor households and children in difficult circumstances. People received general check-ups, heart and abdominal ultrasounds, electrocardiograms, blood tests and nutritional consultations. Along with medical examination and treatment activities, the program also presented 100 wheelchairs to people at 11 regional medical centers, 25 "Support to School" scholarships to health students in difficult circumstances, and 10 free congenital heart surgeries.

The program also presented health gifts and necessities to 20 policy families and local children. At the same time, the delegation visited two families with revolutionary contributions, offered incense at the Hung King Temple and interacted with the youth of Phu Rieng commune, spreading the spirit of "young doctors for the community".

Deputy Minister of Health Vu Manh Ha affirmed that the Ministry of Health will continue to support and replicate models like Careme in the national strategy on non-communicable disease prevention for the period 2026-2035. The Vietnam Young Physicians Association is coordinating with the Ministry of Health and partners to continue implementing Careme in many other localities in 2025-2026, aiming at the goal of "everyone being screened periodically, detected early and cared for early".

The program “Careme - Love Yourself” not only contributes to reducing the burden of disease and treatment costs, but also creates a positive change in public awareness of health care. With the message “Love Yourself - For a Healthier Vietnam”, the program continues to affirm the pioneering role of the Vietnam Young Physicians Association in connecting social resources, applying digital technology, promoting preventive medicine and spreading the spirit of compassion of young physicians in the new era.
