"In the past few days, we have studied the tactics of U22 Vietnam and prepared specific tactics. We have to perform well and make the most of every opportunity," The Star quoted midfielder Haykal Danish Mohd Haizon on the morning of December 9.
U22 Malaysia is preparing for the match for the top spot in Group B of the men's football SEA Games 33 against U22 Vietnam, which will take place on December 11. The 4-1 victory over U22 Laos is helping the Malaysian Tigers gain an advantage over U22 Vietnam, who also have 3 points but have a lower goal difference.
Haykal Danish was one of four players who scored for U22 Malaysia in the first match. He admitted that he has physical limitations (only 1.64m tall), but he is still optimistic that this is not the deciding factor in football success or failure.
"Being tall doesn't mean you're a good player. Real strength comes from the mind and knowing yourself," Haykal Danish confided.
"I play with my head and focus on what I do best. I would be nothing without the support of my teammates. Their support gives me strength," he continued.
Haykal Danish, born in 2005, is one of the outstanding factors of U22 Malaysia. He scored and assisted for U23 Malaysia in the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship and the 2026 Asian U23 qualifiers.
As for head coach Nafuzi Zain, he shared: "Meeting U22 Vietnam is a match that U22 Malaysia is not allowed to lose. I have observed how U22 Vietnam played against U22 Laos and before that, their journey to win the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship. U22 Vietnam has players with speed and technique, clearly this is a stronger opponent than us."
The match between U22 Malaysia and U22 Vietnam will take place at 4:00 p.m. on December 11 at Rajamangala Stadium (Bangkok).
