Since boldly converting the model from growing acacia to growing oranges, the family of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tuyet (50 years old, Kim Hoa commune) has had a stable annual income. On average, each year, the orange garden brings her family tens of millions of dong, becoming the main source of income to help improve their lives.
Previously, Ms. Tuyet's family only planted a few dozen tangerine trees in the garden to sell during Tet, mainly to serve small-scale needs. However, after a period of observation and realizing the obvious economic efficiency of tangerine trees as well as favorable product output, Ms. Tuyet decided to boldly convert. The family renovated the entire 500 m² of acacia land to invest in methodical orange growing, applying new care techniques.
Up to now, after 4 years, Ms. Tuyet's orange garden has entered a stable harvest period. Each orange crop not only helps increase income significantly but also motivates the family to continue expanding the area, improve the farming process and move towards sustainable production. "Oranges in this area are grown and harvested for sale at the end of the year and during Tet, so the price is very good. Now, every family in this area grows oranges to develop the economy, create a stable source of income, and send their children to school. If the weather is favorable, this year's Tet orange crop is estimated to reach about 100 million VND," Ms. Tuyet said.

The Bu orange has long been one of the famous specialties of the mountainous region of Ha Tinh. This fruit is not only suitable for the soil and climate conditions typical of the mountainous region but also closely associated with the lives and livelihoods of the people here for many generations. Thanks to its delicious taste, thick peel, and juicy orange segments, the Bu orange is increasingly popular in the market.
Every year, during the main season of tangerine, the atmosphere in the mountainous communes becomes more bustling. Traders from many provinces and cities across the country come to the gardens to buy, helping people not to worry about the output of the product. The price of tangerine in the garden ranges from 40,000-50,000 VND/kg and in years of good harvest and price, sometimes increases to 80,000 VND/kg.

These days, Mr. Ngo Xuan Linh's family (Kim Hoa commune) is busy taking care of the orange garden to prepare for the harvest to serve the market. Currently, Mr. Linh owns more than 2,000 orange trees, each year producing over 20 tons. Thanks to the large and stable income from orange trees, his family has become well-off, becoming one of the best producers in the locality. Not only enriching himself, Mr. Linh also creates regular jobs for many workers in the commune, helping people increase their income and improve their lives.
With more than ten years of experience with orange trees, Mr. Linh is considered a “fire-bearer” for many households who want to change their production mindset. He is willing to share care techniques, pest control methods, reasonable fertilization processes as well as experience in selecting varieties and finding outlets for products. Thanks to his dedicated guidance, many households in the area have boldly changed crops and developed orange gardens in the direction of commodity production.

According to Mr. Linh, sustainable orange development does not stop at expanding the area but also focuses on quality, safety and brand building. When people master the techniques, apply clean production processes and know how to link consumption, orange trees will continue to become a new direction to increase income, reduce poverty and promote long-term local economic development.
Regarding this issue, the leader of Kim Hoa commune said that the strong development of mandarin orange trees in recent years has opened up a new direction in sustainable poverty reduction in the locality. Many households, thanks to switching from ineffective crops to mandarin orange trees, have had a good source of income, built solid houses, invested in their children's education and escaped poverty in a sustainable way.
Local authorities believe that in the future, Kim Hoa commune will continue to support people to expand the area and improve the quality of oranges to move towards large-scale commodity production, contributing to the goal of sustainable poverty reduction and economic development in mountainous areas.
